Ha! I'll go with not started by someone more known. I think it's quite natural for people to feel more comfortable making jokes etc if they know a poster. There's less chance of it being a flop because of that familiarity.

Funny I was going to start a thread recently on a similar theme but decided against it in case I "broke the rules"

But I would say that if you start a thread and it gets a reply or response from let's say one of the better known forumites it's more likely to do well.

Not always but in general.

So I think you have some validity in your point.
