" Doesn't make a difference to me, if its true then I'm fully mutated. Stuff like that wouldn't stop me smoking, however I aim to stop for other reasons

"The real waste of money is the amount we spend on treating the effects of smoking. Not saying we shouldn't treat people, but we shouldn't allow such dangerous products to be so widely available. " Good point but where do they draw the line, should they not treat alcholics or druggies or people who injure themselves doing crazy sports?

" Have to disagree with you there. Yes we spend a lot of money treating people, but many of those became addicted before the full facts were released, others are passive smokers. Unfortunately the ammount of tax paid by smokers makes it less attractive for the government to ban tobacco completely. This country cant even police the use of Class A drugs, never mind tobacco.

" There is an old episode of Yes Prime Minister (The Smoke Screen) where Sir Humphrey points out to Hacker why it's worth letting people smoke.

Same goes for all the hype about folk been obese etc,the goverments moans how much it costs but will never shut Mcdonalds lol. Just a big exuse to keep taking all our money in taxes. Countrys gone to shit. Lol, happy new year x

The costly thing is obesity - diabetes is really expensive.

"........... The costly thing is obesity - diabetes is really expensive." The very point made in the media today. Surgical intervention for obesity gets paid back in 2/ 3 years by reducing costs associated with diabetes etc.

We've got into a conveyor belt mode of health care, which works for developing specialisms and managing the costs of that service. It doesn't reduce long term costs of provide the most effective abd efficient service. There was quite a lot of research a couple of years ago on how to improve diabetes services. It found that it started with education and prevention work. What's the first thing to be cut when times are hard? Prevention.

"fags are like condoms we know the risks its upto us if we use them or not " Not quite the same. Only one person makes the decision about smoking. Both (or more) parties to the sex decide on the condom use and all have to agree.

"Is there anyone on here who has never had a cigarette? Never smoked or even touched one." Good for you. It interests me why some are able to not ever be tempted to try and others have one and then can't stop. Cigarettes are considered the ultimate gateway drug. I started smoking when I was nine and stopped when I was 18. It never got to more than 10 or so a day. It was a peer pressure thing combined with the curiosity and defiance in the beginning. When I decided to stop I was able to do it within a week and only had one again about 4 years later and I couldn't understand why I had ever had one in the first place.

" My Dad died when only 54. I was 12. He was a fit, strong man who didn't drink but smoked about 40 Woodbine a day. I swore then I'd never have anything to do with tobacco and that pledge also kept me from the whacky baccy my pals were experimenting with.

Yet i have not eaten more. My doctor says its my motabolism which has slowed due to not smoking !! Anyway, im about to tackle that with the same determination that I put into stopping smoking, .... and if it doesnt work then what the hell, I can breathe, taste and run up the stairs without gasping for breath ( even tho my wobbly bits take a bit longer to stop wobbling)

Do you think this is an impactful ad? Does it make a difference to smokers or is there now nothing more to be learned from infomercials like this? " It just makes me turn the TV over tbh. I've smoked for 38 years (I'm 47 now) so if you add up all the '15 cigarettes' I've had in that time I should have a mutation the size of Manhattan.
