Somewhere In The Ether…

I have recently developed a keen proclivity for these and it’s not just on account of the stories; the scenery is invariably quite spectacular to behold to!

Any other fans here and what are your personal favourites?

The Nordic/Scandi Noir are hard to beat in my opinion. Border town and the like.

Yep, totally agree.

'The Bridge' is brilliant. Im trying to remember the others.

I enjoyed 'Occupied' too, although not a crime drama. Its a series about Russia invading Norway

I loved Black Spot!

Sad news though: A third season has STILL not been confirmed (and is looking doubtful) after season two’s viewing figures were not as much as the makers had hoped for (certainly in comparison to the first series).

Fingers crossed though as there are so many questions left unanswered

I also love the differing architectural styles; small French villages, Italian markets etc. Such fascination really adds to the enjoyment experience for me

Think its what the UK/French drama The Tunnel was based on- they also did a American version with Matthew Lillard in it, who was fantastic as always.

I've watched Woman of the Dead - Austrian mini series on Netflix.

I love different development of characters comparing to what we are used to in American or British TV shows. Tempo of the storyline and plot helped too.

That’s a great point; the whole feel is typically very different to UK and American offerings which I also love though (a gluten for the whole genre me)

By way of example, I watched a French series called, The Forest which was very slow moving but at the same time, absolutely captivating.

And the scenery once again….absolutely beautiful beyond words

Get on to More4 or whatever its called this week- they have an entire section of foreign dramas (Walter Presents). Most of what i've seen beats the quality of 99% of British TV with a big shitty stick!

While not entirely crime related, Greyzone is brilliant, about a terrorist plot, but with the same sort of drama and tension as a crime drama.

I can also recommend The Adulterer and The Swingers (the latter has surprisingly little to do with swinging, just there to coax people in) but again, both gripping shows with great acting and storylines.

Also, The Deutschland series (3 of em) are utterly fantastic!

Not a "crime drama" per se, but a semi-historical crime film I can recommend, is "Chasing The Dragon". It's set in Hong Kong during the 1960s to 70s and documents the exploits of a major HK triad boss and his murky dealings/entanglements with HK law enforcement and political figures of the time.

Very good film. Reasonably accurate. And yes, there are English subtitles.

We'll second this, add sex crimes:code 37 and there's one about an autist woman who pairs up with a female detective which is great, it's called Astrid, both on Walter presents

I thoroughly enjoyed the series 100 Code.

I've watched season one of Der Pass but haven't started season 3 yet. But really liked that one too.

And Midnight Sun had me hooked too.

After watching the UK The Tunnel I've wanted to watch the bridge but still haven't got to it.

I don't actually watch TV most days.

Binged most of a series called "Undercover" on Netflix lately. Belgian I think it is. Highly reccomend, and the baddy who's my favourite character got a spin off origin story film, also on there.

Oh yes 100 Code was good, was always hoping for a second season!

The Bridge gets my vote also!

Beck is a good Swedish one.

Deadwind and The Chestnut man on Netflix are also some I’ve really enjoyed.

Definitely The Bridge, is a worthwhile watch. Saga one of the lead detectives is a great character.

I’ve watched quite a few of the Scandinavian dramas on BBC4 and they’re all really good.

I've binged watched almost every scandic drama - seems like thousands of them

Particular favourites include border town - plus a Belgium series "sex crimes code 37" it's great plus has the added bonus of lingering camera shots of Veerle Baetens arse

On all4. There is an Italian series based on true events about the mafia. Its called the hunter. The person its based on has recently been in the news again with the mafia trying to get an injunction against his book because it portrays them in a bad light.

Also a French series the crimson rivers.

Gomorrah, probably as good or, in my opinion, better than the Sopranos for a series based around the mafia.

To be fair, English speaking programmes these days need subtitles as actors speak fast and mumble.
