Don’t judge yourself

Gateway to the Beacons

When you go out into the woods, and you look at trees, you see all these different trees. And some of them are bent, and some of them are straight, and some of them are evergreens, and some of them are whatever. And you look at the tree and you allow it. You see why it is the way it is. You sort of understand that it didn’t get enough light, and so it turned that way. And you don’t get all emotional about it. You just allow it. You appreciate the tree.

The minute you get near humans, you lose all that. And you are constantly saying ‘You are too this, or I’m too this.’ That judgment mind comes in. And so I practice turning people into trees. Which means appreciating them just the way they are.”

Carlisle usually

When I look at the forest of people, I do allow and accept for what they are and the conditions in which they exist.

But I don't have so much leniency for myself. I could be better, I should be better. The choices I make define who I am, regardless of environment or necessity.

Humans aren't trees though.

If someone is horrible to me or a bit of a danger I'm judging, hard. In the same way as I'd judge a damages tree that was in danger of falling on my head, regardless of the life experiences that lead to that damage.

and sometimes you take a chainsaw into the woods and you cut down all the trees and use them as firewood!
