This is a particular grumble of mine.

Why can’t people stack a dishwasher as per the manufacturers instructions? It works so much better !

The manufacturer's instructions only work if all your crockery, pots and pans conform to what they expected. A lot of the soup/cereal bowls I have don't stack very easily. And don't get me started on the cat's bowls.

I've developed a stacking strategy that works for me, sod what the manufacturers want.

My OCD does not approve of the random approach. Just the same as it does not approve of people leaving great big gouges in the butter. Just take a layer off the top and leave it even, you bloody savages

I slice the end off the butter, for example when making mash. No gouging though.

I hope that doesn't offend too much.

In our house, (as she is Italian) dishes are virtually rinsed clean before going in the dishwasher. No food on anything and I have to say I’m converted!

I put them in the dishwasher and then use a chantry sharpener to hone them before use.
