With Valentines day approaching do you think the art of romance is dead?....

Do people wine & dine someone now?..

Give them flowers or chocolates or little gifts for no reason?..

I always buy flowers on a first date / social

I'll get the bill if it's a meal

I used to buy flowers and gifts for no reason for my ex.

So for me no it's not dead.

I think flowers and chocolates are a little outdated, as is the notion of wining and dining.

But sharing nice food with someone will never grow old for me. It doesn't need to involve a fancy restaurant

.

Do I think romance is dead?

No.

I think that it's such a personal, fluid construct; while it may appear on the surface that the halcyon days of romance are long gone and simply a marketing tool/feature in songs/films, I think romance still exists.

Romance might be buying someone their favourite book. Brushing their hair after a long day because they're too tired to do it. Replying to their long waffle with kindness because they know it means something to them. Buying someone their favourite brand of pen because you saw it and thought of them.

Wining and dining still exists. But what's truly romantic is knowing someone and tailoring your affectionate gestures to them. Because you know them, care about them and want to make them happy.

I think everyone has a slightly romantic heart, even if they deny it. We never quite give up hope on romance. On love.

I don’t think it’s dead. Maybe the out of date notion of what romance is might be dead. It’s evolved into other things where people have so many more different ideas of what romance is and how to display it.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. It needn’t be a ‘special’ day dedicated to it either.

Flowers? here are some beautiful things i had killed to give you so you can watch them rot, they cost just as much as your dress.

Whats romantic about food we eat everyday?

I think what has happened is romance has evolved, so i agree with the poster above, wining and dining, flowers and chocolates thats what tv taught us romance was way back at the statt of last century, i don't think many people come to Fab to be romanced.

Valentine's Day is just a made up commercial event aimed at getting people to spend money.

If you want to buy your significant other something do it, don't wait for a day some marketing executive tells you to wait for.

To answer the OP, no, I don't think romance is dead.

We not celebrating Valentine’s Day. It’s known as overpriced bullshit day in our house. But that doesn’t mean romance is dead I show my wife I love her every single day not just in the 14th of feb and big gestures mean nothing to me, keep your materialistic shit, it’s the little things. The random I love you, cuddle, ass grab, holding hands. The look in her eyes that’s says “ I got you “

King's Crustacean

Romance is subjective. If you are romantic then romance cannot die. It does not survive without romantics and romantic action.

Wining and dining isn't outdated, nor are flowers or chocolates but the manner in which they are given could be outdated.

St. Valentine's is nothing but a money making exercise as are all the other 'Hallmark' days.

exactly this. All to easy to get lazy and comfortable, forgetting to still give each other attention all year round not just the commercial days we feel obliged to. Cuppa and a hug or bit of affection goes a long way x

If your perception of romance is purely wining and dining then I imagine it is dead for a lot of people but if you see romance in a wider context, small acts of loveliness- just because you can, gentle touches of a hand or an arm with eye contact full of love and do on, then I would say romance is very much alive and well thankfully.

Nope don't bother! We probably didn't after the 4 or 5 year mark of being together, not done it for years and we've been together 12 years this year. We don't need one day to show we love eachother.

I think it's good for dating, new relationships etc and good on anyone who wants to it, just we choose not too

No.

Romance is a huge turn on, it's to know someone has you on their mind, to know they've been thinking about you in your absence. It's not just a box of chocolates or a bunch of flowers. It's the little personal things that no-one would think of. Well that's what it is to me! I like a little romance.

We often get each other small gifts for no reason. I think romance is about more than gifts and meals out though. It's a windscreen defrosted while you're in the shower, a cup of coffee in bed that sort of thing

I think the commercialisation of Valentine's Day along with the associated price hiking has put a lot of people off doing anything "special" for the day. Just go for nice meals out any other day of the year, what difference does February 14th make?

It's about even with us I think. He gets coffee and breakfast in bed nearly every day, I suppose true romance would be me serving it naked and offering a blow job at the same time. Lets take it steady, we've only been together 42 years, one step at a time...

Conventional generic approaches to Romance are not for me.

I dont think a dozen red roses is in anyway Romantic but then... I always struggle with the concept of Romance because....what even is it? Blake and Shelley and Gothic novels.. how the hell did we get from there to here....?

Unconventional, thoughtful and intimate suits me better.

I don’t do anything like that but I went on a date recently and messed up the arrangements, part language barrier, we met 3 hours late so I’d got her a little gift to say sorry.

If I’m really into someone I’ll often buy her random gifts for me! Make up, underwear , clothes etc

I think romance lives in that little part of your consciousness where the person you care for resides 24/7 and if you see a thing or think of them randomly whatever you do/buy/say as a result is intended to communicate to them that they were in your thoughts and heart at that moment and every moment. That, even when apart, they're still with them.
