Tin town

So today is grey bin day..not to be confused with green bin day or brown bin day or black bin day or small black bin day or small green bin day.

I live in a little close.. With 18 houses in it... After every bin day... We can all be found searching for our bins... I'm sure it's a bit of sport for the bin men... But none are replaced even close to the property from whence they came... Some appear in other Streets...

Does anybody else have a bit of shenanigans on bin day?

I get confused; we have a black bin for general waste, a green bin for green waste, a blue bin for….I don’t know and a brown bin (for dog shit I presume)

There’s also a food waste bin (to put dog shit in?) and a paper waste bin….

So many variations! Ha ha we have general waste bin which is green, a black bin for all recycling and purple bin for garden waste, which we have to pay for. No need for bin wars in my road.

Most of the time, my bins can still be found outside my house, but the bin men usually toss the lids onto my garden.

Our lical city council don't provide wheely bins we're still provided with recycling bags, but have to provide our own black bags - which of vourse get ripped open by foxes and ends up spread all over the street - and the bin men don't pick any of it up

We had the dancing binmen around here. Mostly they worked a different route, but I have seen them occasionally on our road. They were quite famous during the lockdowns, not seen anything of them for a while now

I find this super annoying because Mr KC puts out the bins and he makes sure that they are nicely at the side of our drive. The bin men just dump them back across the driveway but by that time, he's gone to work. I am unable to move them but have to get out for school and work. I have to call random passers by to move them

We don't qualify for the assisted bin collection where they take it back down your drive, because there is one able bodied adult in the house......

I did find one of mine 20 yards down the street once but usually my 3 neighbours' and my bins are left outside my gate, so they are easy to find.

Bin men don't have time to put every bin back as they've been given more streets, because of cut backs.

I have a friend who lives in a close beginning with 'D' in a development called 'D Park'.

I call it 'Dustbin Close' in 'Dustbin Park' because there is nowhere for any of the households to keep their vast array of different coloured wheelie bins other than in their tiny frontage.

Wheelie bin culture had not been envisaged when the architects deigned the place.

This tatty looking scenario is repeated all over the country and appears to have no easy solution.

I feel left out... I only have 1 bin, for recycling. I just put black bags out for general waste and don't bother with the food ones as I don't create much waste.

50 quid here... And they halved the size of the bin too.. You know... In an effort to be eco friendly... They sent crews out to take away the 300 litre bins which were fine.. And replace them with brand new 100 litre bins... And presumably chucked the old ones away

Our council has given up on bins as a cost-cutting exercise. We are definitely strewn with rubbish every bin day.

Bravo Wandsworth. The foxes love it. I'v yet to see a deer feasting on a curry bit it may happen in the wee hours when no one is about.

No charge for garden waste. However, due to the size of the gardens here, the gardeners have compost heaps in various places in the wood for grass and shrub clippings, so that bin mainly gets food waste from the wasteful people upstairs in it.

Don't get me started about my bin, the green one! Rubbish going into it by other neighbour so I put a chain and padlock on it. Fast forward two years to tonight and part of my chain has been cut off! Can only think that the bin men did it. Just don't know why, they never bothered before. Sorry folks, rant over

I leave mine in the garden to wilt down to nothing.

The hedgehogs use the piles of leaves to sleep under at night.

"Don't get me started about my bin, the green one! Rubbish going into it by other neighbour so I put a chain and padlock on it. Fast forward two years to tonight and part of my chain has been cut off! Can only think that the bin men did it. Just don't know why, they never bothered before. Sorry folks, rant over

My council binned the bins so now we just chuck em in some black bags and chuck them on the street....to trip pedestrians and get run over by cars.

next decade sewage will be back in the streets too....ah the dark ages.

We had it really simple, with blye for paper/plastic, black for genera and brown for paid for garden wasye. Unto a silly foldable box was started for paper - which isn't waterproof.

I and several other neighbours take and collect back several and the refuse people are quite accurate at returning things close by

It's probable not been outsourced to a company with a very low bid, with poorly cared for staff - and too few of them.

. Yet.

I have my house no. stickers on my bins. Still doesn't stop the neighbour taking my bins more often than their own

The least they could do is replace the bins where they found them (assuming they are clearly numbered). Back in the day they had to fetch them and return them.

Granted, they had only one bin per property to collect, but they worked harder back then.

I often head out for a run as the bin men are coming along my road and generally have to end my run at the end of the road when I get back. This is because the bins are left strewn all over the pavements so no one can actually walk down the road without having to move most of the bins. I dread to think how anyone with limited mobility would actually negotiate getting in and out of the road on bin day until a kindly soul has walked down and tidied the bins away.
