A whole uncooked chicken used to be £4.75. They're now £7.

Our food shopping bill has gone up an awful lot.

Our gas and electric last month was £336.

We swap and change where we do our shopping. £7 in Asda. Need to return to Aldi x

Im afraid in the UK we have been used to cheap disposable food for too long. Food prices are more in line these days with the true costs of production but still the supermarket giants owned by foreign corporations in some cases continue to post huge profits. Same with the energy companies. In both cases and anywhere there are many suppliers and or consumers of a commodity it often results in the middle men (supermarkets / energy providers) buying each other out and controlling the market.. it's a cartel. In energy, in food retailing, general retailing (online), etc. It's always bad for suppliers or customers or both. These huge companies need broken up. The monopolies and mergers or competition watchdog or whoever they are aren't doing their job to ensure fair competition in the marketplace. An oligopoly is what you want, many suppliers and many buyers and regulation on middle men.

It's so hard at the moment, my daughter works full time as an electrician ,she's on a good wage ,she's a single parent to two teenagers and a baby

She's really struggling I've been helping her with bills ,shopping etc ,I hate seeing her struggle

I’m not sure what e stands for … but… do the food bank not supply a weeks worth of food in one go to Save you travelling backwards and forwards?

Not all that North of North London

Its a worry to us and we are making savings where we can so it hopefully doesn't become a problem. Thankfully living in a one bedroom flat means our utilities are lower than many but even so the heating is rarely on unless the temperature outside is around freezing

I'm fortunate enough to say I'm not struggling.

I'm certainly a couple of bad purchases etc away from it but having managed to cut off a few luxuries for the time being it has allowed me to still be comfortable.

A food bank is an emergency option or when it first started at first, I believe its 3 days worth of canned and dry food.

The food pantries offer 3 days of food twice a week, which include fresh food.

I see it as a challenge. Its made me quit buying things and habits that were not necessary or beneficial to my health (nothing illegal, just cases of diet s etc)

So I'm pretty much no worse off, but healthier.

I'm fortunate enough to have 2 incomes though, not everyone has that "luxury"
