Ours has almost gone, replaced by a small retail park that consists of a couple of fast food places & a few shops like B&M/Homebase ect... the little cafes have gone, the charity shops and all the quirky shops I use to enjoy. It's a small seaside town near lots of holiday parks (Berwick upon t), the place should be thriving. Sad sign of current times. RIP High Streets

I’ve tried many times to shop on the high street in Sheffield I’ve always been in favour over online.

Sadly though I have stopped, not speaking for other cities as I have enjoyed shopping in places like Manchester, Leeds and Nottingham. When I want to do some shopping I’ll go to Meadowhall the shopping centre here, instead of the high street.

It’s really gone down hill here. I used to enjoy going but it’s just not very pleasant anymore. If you’ve been to Sheffield you’ll know what I mean…

Oh I love wondering around York. Though I do tend to do the majority of my shopping online, more for convenience than anything.

Online is cheaper but nothing beats trying it on or seeing it first, sadly how much longer will it last, i live in a seaside town to and the shops are dwindling

I'm originally from that area so I know what you mean. As a teenager we would save all our paper round money for big exciting trips to Medadowhall with friends

Most town centers are dieing! Online shopping has become the demise of most of them! Unless it's a quaint interesting place like Canterbury ! Can't remember last time I visited ours x

I went to Manchester yesterday and we wanted to find a cafe for coffee +(vg) cake.. But we could only find major chains.. Perhaps we weren't in the right bit

More pay to park around here and now charity shops or coffee places that it's a day out to get something as opposed to 5min click.

I'd love to shop more local if possible, but feel it's a dying high street and will only be things you cant buy online

I went looking for a few bargains the other week, all I wanted was a couple of pairs of jeans, a decent jumper maybe a t-shirt or 3. There was one shop with jeans, jumpers made me look like a hooligan or an 80's icon, t-shirts I gave up on as I was just knackered from all the walking around.

Where I'm originally from in Manchester had an amazing little high street. And even in current times, it absolutely thrives. So many independent little cafes and bars, retail shops that sell overpriced candles and all that kind of shite. I'm always shocked at how well it does. It's not somewhere you'd go out of your way to visit too but somehow it buzzes.

I do try to support local and high street, but it's so expensive and when you don't have much money it's much more convenient to shop online and eat out at more affordable food chain restaurants.

I lived in Sheffield for 10 years. And totally agree Meadowhall has killed city centre. And the shops on fargate are poor. What have they done to where the market used to be ?

My high street isn't that big but we had a Woolworths, a big Post Office and a Sainsbury's that have all gone.

The pie and mash shop is now something different and there's more chicken, pizza and African takeaway food places now.

I miss the pie and mash shop the most.

I still go now and then to shop in Wilkinsons, Boots and Iceland but years ago I did my weekly and weekend shop there and did Christmas shopping in Woolworths.

Now I go to Romford.

Barking is getting a revamp so we might get some decent shoe and clothing shops instead of more coffee chains and food franchises.

I used to work on Dale street in Manchester City Centre, the old offices around that area now have interesting cafes and bars. That area and a bit further down in the Northern Quarter is exactly what you appear to be looking for. Have a look next time you’re in town.

Out of town now has the edge in lots of places due to excessive parking charges if you can even find a space when busy.

I think more people go in to Exeter for leisure rather than serious shopping.

Small, independents alongside the national retailers to give an individual feel rather than the anonymity of many bland high streets.

Yes. I've not been in in an age, but I'd look around the Northern Quarter as well. Lots of quirky little places and more likely to be vegan friendly.

I don’t actually no what’s going on with the old market was. It’s really a no go place that end of town now it’s just full of idiots off their head.

Very poor shops though on fargate not many left. Even for food here it’s rubbish there is very few decent restaurants…

You are lucky, compared to most of Cornwall Torquay is a dream for shopping
