Clients from hell

Now I know it's not Thursday far from it but just need to vent!

They do programmes on builders/tradesmen from hell but i wish they would do one on clients from hell.

I'm getting fed up with people who treat me like a bank and have nonintention of paying. Although I never take money up front I can certainly see why people do. And it's always seems to be people that have a nice house nice car that don't pay and the ones that haven't got a pot to piss in that pay there and then as soon as the job is done! Honestly it makes me feel like jacking it in sometimes !

that's business mate. There's nothing wrong with getting money up front, even a partial payment. Too many "customers" take the piss

I'm a sparky and if I do a job that involves buying hundreds of pounds worth of materials I insist on 25% up front to cover the cost of buying them. Then if they renege on paying me I've only lost my time, although tbh I can usually sense when someone is going to pull a fast one and in those instances I'll leave essential circuits unterminated until the final day and AFTER I've been paid. It's surprising how many people come up with the cash when faced without power to their boiler or kitchen.

Watching someone's face as you strip £150 worth of wallpaper of their walls can be quite amusing.

That is what puts alot of people out of buisness, they know its going to cost you alot more to to take them to court to get the money.

Kitchen companies over here have the right idea, 25% the day you sign, then a further 50% when its in the island, so they have 75% of your money BEFORE the kitchen has reached your house, so the most they will loose is 25%, not that they will ever loose.

Got to get tough mate, get a different contract written up for them to sign, saves a lot of hassel

With you on this one.

Tradesmen seem to be used as over drafts now.

I always seem to have to chase money where as a few years back payment was always made on time or end of job etc.

There are a lot of piss taking customers out there

I've even had a cable sitting in between the blades of my cutters as I've discussed money with a customer. They soon pay up.

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

I'm refurbing a house at the mo. Have had to deal with quite a lot of workmen and have paid them as and when they needed. The only one who took the mick was the plasterer but had a word and he got his arse in gear.

As à contract administrator, I have withheld commissioning certificates until sufficient payment has been made to my contractors....

Client soon pays up....

I used to work for a friend who Is a sparky, and a gentleman once refused to pay so my mate just started unscrewing the plug sockets and pulling the wire out, he said until you pay this is my property the bloke soon paid up, he then charged him 300 quid to replace the sockets and wire which he got up front
