"I do like the unfashionable, slow-ageing, high-tannin, oaky wines of Bordeaux's Left Bank. Some old-school Ribera del Duero and Riojas still have these qualities, too. That dark blackcurrant, cedar-shaving scent. Black pepper and cherries. Gorgeous." Hence i love the Languedoc has all these traits

"A good Italian full bodied red for me, a primitivo or similar" I have to agree. A good DOCG like a Barolo to me is as good as anything from Languadoc and often a fraction of the price. I do like wines of Languadoc , especially the ones you can buy there and the prices, but basing this on access to wine in the uk below £50 a bottle it’s Italian for me For £20-£30 a bottle, Italian is way ,,way better than French. At this price I can’t tell the French from any other country sold in supermarkets like chilli or Argentina at £5 , it’s pretentious and overpriced I like the odd Malbec and Rioja but it’s a different experience to drinking Italian wine.

"Difficult to go wrong with Nars for a red *Needs applause* You also can't fault MAC and ruby woo - it's a classic" Oddly Ruby Woo (and Russian Red) fall rather flat on me! (And Velvet Teddy makes me look ill) Lady Danger on the other hand - absolutely stunning.

"I strongly sense this thread may be the genesis for an Oenological Fab Social. In London, of course. Anyway, I recommend a Sancerre Rouge Terre de Maimbray. Deep cherry flavour and a dry but lingering finish." Did I hear cherry?

It obediently remains on the lips and stays off my collar.
