Barry Rigby is a true sporting legend. He has won the 2023 pie speed eating world championship in Wigan. Now Tom likes a pie like the next man but they are appreciated so much more up north. Well done Barry.

I look forward to seeing this story pop up on BBC News app. There's a lot of details missing at this stage that I'd like to know.

I also for a split second thought this was about my local Rugby Club but then it's early and I'm blurry eyed.

Reports that they are meat and potato served not too hot and not too cold. Consumed in less than 35 seconds. His method is not to take lots of small bites but to pop in I'm his mouth in one go.

There is actually an invention called the Wigan pie and it's a pie in a bread roll.

Tom has never been to Wigan but it is fameous for it's pier and Wigan pie. They also had one of the best Rugby League teams and a great sense of humour. Martin Offiah who was as fast as the wind was nicknamed Chariots Offiah.

Tom cannot wait to visit Wigan to taste their pies and of course their hospitality
