Maldon and Peterborough

Have you gone through your settings?

Maybe there's a parental lock or similar.

I had that on one of my old phones. It had an automatic block on the phone settings that didn't allow you to text numbers that cost you.

Try going into your message)call settings and looking for a block on premium numbers. If not, you might have to ring your network provider for them to unblock it

Ignore my previous post re adult content!

Seems you can't text premium numbers on Smarty.

"Currently, you can only send texts (SMS and MMS) to normal UK mobile numbers with all SMARTY plans (excluding data-only plans), so text messages are free no matter which plan you're on.

However, at some point, you'll also be able to send other kinds of messages which will be chargeable. Chargeable texts will include premium-rate texts and short-codes, which are used for entering competitions, buying ringtones, voting on reality TV shows and paying for parking.

We'll let you know when you're able to send these alternative types of text messages.

When the time comes, please note that you'll need to buy one of our out of plan add-ons in order to send a chargeable text. You'll also need an out of plan add-on to text internationally from the UK."

If, like me, you only use debit cards, your simplest recourse is to go into a local branch of the phone company and take photo identification. They will unblock it for you. A nuisance but I haven't found a better way.

During the first lockdown, after I had bought a smartphone on the last ever day that Carphone Warehouse was open (I might well be their last ever in-store purchaser) I managed to get a sympathetic service provider operator on the telephone to remove a block on hearing that I obviously wasn't a child.

As can be seen, the post I was replying to got deleted while I was composing my submission.

However my advice might still be relevant to someone seeking an adult content unblock.

It's worth us all being aware that some of the virtual mobile operators, like Smarty, may not all provide these shortcode texting services. I remember seeing it in their info last year, as I've considered moving from 1 of the major full networks.

When we upgraded I just paid by PayPal. Much easier than text or card payments.
