There are other things to worry about people doing on public transport than putting on their make up!

I think, maybe they didn't have time to do their makeup because they slept in, or had a child having one of those days who wouldn't put the only clean pair of school trousers on "'Cos they itch me".

Or they had to pop into Tesco at the last minute because the elder child forgot they had cooking that day and needed ingredients for a cottage pie.

Whatever the reason, I don't stare or judge any more than I would if a man was using an electric shaver on his beard.

Why not?

What harm are they doing to you personally?

What's next? No eating on public transport? No reading? No listening to music? No looking at each other?

The only person that shouldn't be doing any of the above on public transport is the driver.

A little touch up in the bathroom would solve that problem.

What is it about applying make up in public transport that concerns you op?

I admit the likelihood of a mascara brush in the eye is what bothers me.

I did once see a woman applying mascara while waiting at the lights

To get into our London office I leave on the first train of the day at 6am. I always put my makeup on whilst travelling. I do tend to leave the mascara until we’ve pulled up at a station (risk assessment).

I’d be really interested to understand why the OP, or anyone else would be put off by me doing so.

I don’t see the harm. People would mistake me for something from The Hills Have Eyes if I went out without make up so you wouldn’t catch me doing it. But what’s the big damn deal, as long as they’re not poking you with a mascara brush?

Probably because we’re damned if we do and damned if we don’t? I can imagine people also being critical of a woman who doesn’t wear any makeup…. ‘I don’t know why she never makes any effort. She looks like she’s been dug up. Would it kill her to put a bit of slap on on the train’

Why does it bother you OP? It isn’t affecting you in the slightest unless she’s blowing powder in your face or dropping lipstick and foundation in your lap.

Or the people who claim that women who wear make up are guilty of 'false advertising '

I don't care. Actually I'm impressed with how quickly some women can put a full face of make up on; it's almost artistry. Here's me with my mascara, eyeshadow and Vaseline taking ten minutes and thinking, yeah, I've done a good job. Not in a moving vehicle.

I think lots of people do stuff on public transport that can be annoying. My list includes but isn't limited to

Manspreading

Bags on seats when people are standing

Loud music

Loud phone conversations

Watching videos without earbuds

Smelly food

Sniffing

Unpleasant personal odour

Very loud conversations, I really don't care what she turned round and said to him. Also if you start a good bit of gossip, finish before you get off I need to know what happened

Good on them! If it gives them an extra 5 or 10 mins in the morning then why not? I think we have all seen much worse than that on public transport. I mean, look at some of the pics on here. Wet, moist, dripping fanny lips spread bare on the seat.

Yes to all of the above! And also people who allow their coat/ bag/ themselves to encroach on my seat space

Really don't see what the issue is. I've done it myself plenty of times. Near the end of a 3 hour long train journey, I want to tidy myself up before I get off the train. I'll do my make up and hair, although I do my hair in the toilet. I'd much rather see someone do their make up that watch them sniff, sneeze and use their sleeve as a tissue.
