Why do we measure our thunder thimbles in imperial? Does 6 inches sound more impressive than 150mm

Not more impressive but less intimidating

Nothing that's measured in mm ever sounds intimidating

Don't forget - the humble 6 inches - is a sixth of a yard!

Bexley

I think they should be measured in 'Hamptons'. It is a word which naturally sounds substantial and is ideally preceded by the word 'massiive'.

Millimetres will never sound anything but small.

Inches are sufficiently large units to start with, so that the inevitable rounding up to the next one brings a significant benefit!

"what's wrong with a cubit?"

definitely appropriate for Big Harold being "unit of length based on the length of the forearm from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger and usually equal to about 18 inches (46 centimeters)"
