When you say “I love you” what’s your partners normal response?

He usually says, “yeah I know”, “me too” or even worse “ how much it going to cost me”. Does my head in at times

If someone tells me they love me, I say “who doesn’t?”

Not that it happens these days

It varies, usually I love you too, sometimes "ok", sometimes "thanks/cheers" and sometimes "well someone has to"

Travelling

I'm single.

But when I'm with somebody they say I love you, and I respond with "I know" it they don't accept that as the perfect answer, it may be the end of things there and then.

They will know exactly what I'm saying, that right there makes them a keeper!

We tell each other I love you all the time, though not so much (to us anyway) that it seems too much.

When I played with regular couple, she said it to him while we were all playing, then caught herself and said to me: I like you. It was a really sweet moment that meant we were all having fun but that they were still with each other.

Adorable.

I sometimes say I love you too. Or I kind of love you. Or make an awkward joke that lightens and deflects with how bad it is.

Well in that case .... here's my answer.

It's not pleasant ever for someone you love to not give you reassurance back.

I know it's often said that some find it difficult to say but to me if they can't say it then they are in high denial of their love or lack of it.

They also lack empathy if they cannot imagine how detrimental to the 'other' this constant denial is. It is damaging to the person who never hears it back. It just re enforces what they think ( which could be that they are not loved - which may not be the truth but it sets doubt in motion and keeps it there )

Don't go all do lally though ..... sometimes it's easier to think about how you are treated or protected or respected by your other......some are less inclined to say it than others but it's shown in their behaviours and attitudes...

Personally id rather not be told at all than told a thousand times a day by a liar who finds words easy .....

And love is different to different folk and I bet my bottom dollar you two have never discussed 'what love is' to each of you and what you expect from a loving relationship....

My daughter always moaned that her husband didn't love her ..... I used to say .... he does... just not in the way you want to be loved.

Did her head in

Buht as ever, open communication is the key x

No longer have a partner. But I tell my dad when I see him for dinner each week, and my mum when I call her a couple times a week (lives in Athens) my two closest friends get it to when we talk/see each other, and my Bros too.

And everyone says it back.

Not the same as OPs original post. But after being with someone for over 10 years and hearing it every day, am lucky to have close friends and family!

Sorry that was longer than it needed to be.

Carlisle usually

It's something I only say to family.

Spent too long with it just being a call and response thing and hearing it from someone I'm intimate with makes my skin crawl, so I don't encourage that.

Not that I don't care deeply about my partners, I just associate the word in that situation with manipulation and falsehoods, so I don't like to use it.
