Many sectors are on strike this month and since yesterday the nhs staff are on strike, do you know the latest on it and is the strike about pay?

I work in hospitals and I know many others that also do. There isn't enough staffing to cover everything. You wonder why there's waiting lists for days, because there's not enough people to keep it safe. It would be like cutting off your arms and a leg then expecting to win the F1 championship. The tools that are required are being made available.

Is that the case, or is it more that existing staff and equipment are used inefficiently? I keep hearing that NHS are 'rushed off their feet' but that's not my observation from being in UK hospitals.

A bit of both. Say in the hospitals closest to me, they are still on paper notes, which is rife for abuse/poor management. It's 2023 they should all be electronic, so we shouldn't need to worry about poor handwriting and able to keep track better. Also, I know hospitals that don't have enough Physiotherapist, but they don't have the funds to employ anymore.

Not just under the tories alone, the funding to expenditure disproportion has been an ongoing thing for years, expenditure has been rising for many many years due to higher population numbers and people living longer, and not always in the right areas like new hospitals so more beds and training new staff to accommodate that, the funding hasn't followed suit to match, its actually dropped from around 2008.

Sub inflation pay rises for staff started in 2008, not just when the coalition took over in 2010

(Ps not a tories lover, just look at the bigger picture and don't automatically bash the obvious blamee)

Which hospitals have you been in?? Manchester Royal Infirmary was an absolute car crash on Monday evening, overnight and Tuesday morning and our more local hospital was on the BBC main news recently, showing how overcrowded the A&E is. It was obvious from the filming, patients were squished into corridors and alcoves on trollies and as senior nurse of 30+ years service described it as the worst she's ever seen.

To put in a completely new PAS in a hospital/Trust cost millions to implement and support afterwards. Planning funds etc for many yrs isn't taken lightly.

How much should our democratically elected mps be paid? Do you know how much an mp is paid? Do you know what an mp does? Or how many hours they work?
