Ok. Straight away I'll say I'm not 100%. I often make typo's especially rushing in the chat room or typing on my phone. Mrs Noobs rarely makes any.

Bad spelling and text speak always puts Mrs Noobs off. I've never really been that bothered.

But the spelling in the forums over the last 24 hours has been atrocious.

If you have a tablet, pc or phone with predictive text or spell check surely it doesn't need to be this bad.

Although I have no issues with spelling myself and rarely my iPhone changes words and I proof read my posts 9/10, I have no issue with others not spelling correctly as there's more to life.

That is on the forums, messages I/we receive, if it is entirely incomprehensible I know that the sender of the message would not be compatible with me/us.

English is not my first language, and I had put in a lot of time and efforts, and worked hard to read, write and speak properly.

Hence I do not look favourably at people who spell and/or write poorly.

I'm dyslexic but always do my best. I must admit I hate predictive text so turn mine off... If I'm not sure I just google the word to get the correct spelling...

My pet hate is the mistakes made with they, their, they're and your and you're....

If you know you are dyslexic you know you have to try a bit harder.... I'm nowhere near perfect but I make an effort not excuses....

Why use predictive text, anyway?? You can type a text message out uber fast on a smartphone/iphone anyway.

What is the obsession with predictive text?

I wasn't having a go at genuine dyslexia. My point is people claim to have dyslexia and then do not display the conventions of it. I think it was NN who pointed this out on a previous thread as well. I don't expect perfection in spelling but I agree with the OP.

I like my brain to be stimulated by people I'm going to play with but not to the extent where I get a headache trying to decipher what they've written. Dyslexia does not effect someone's intelligence. It is a condition which effects their ability to read and spell, some sufferers describe text as moving when they read it and they can be helped by using anti glare screens and coloured screens to place over books.

Exactly how I feel - the claim of dyslexia for sloppily written messages is really annoying. Just because something is spelt badly does not mean the person is dyslexic.

I find poor grammar and text speak far more irritating, though. Some people are simply hopeless at spelling, just as some (like me) are hopeless at maths.

Badly written messages, however, are beyond simple spelling mistakes. If someone messages me with a very poor message it is unlikely I will get on with them sufficiently to want to have sex with them - I know, I have tried.

Absolutely in agreement..

what next, only 'very pretty' people are allowed to contribute..?

or those on a certain income..?

life is too short to worry about trivia, if someone is applying for a job then yes clearly correct spelling and pronunciation are important..

if we receive a banal one liner we still tend to say no ty, whether its as per the oed is irrelevant imho..

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

Incidentally, there are many famous and highly intelligent people who have/do suffer from dyslexia:

Thomas Edison

Albert Einstein

Pablo Picasso

Leonardo Da Vinci

General George Patton

Steve Redgrave

Mohammad Ali

Richard Branson

Agatha Christie

Henry Ford

to name just a few.

Spelling, unless something is utterly unreadable, is really not that relevant in this sphere. Grammar is of greater importance to me - it can make messages completely indecipherable. Not much point in messaging someone if they cannot read and understand what you want to say.

When you've finished biting my head off you'll see that I'm actually not having a go at dyslexia. I was saying that dyslexia does not effect intelligence and that wasn't directed solely at you but also at people without an understanding of the condition. In my opinion the way to help people understand dyslexia is to inform them about it. I have a sound knowledge of it as its one of the areas which I specialise in for work and thus I was passing my knowledge on.

"Incidentally, there are many famous and highly intelligent people who have/do suffer from dyslexia:

Thomas Edison

Albert Einstein

Pablo Picasso

Leonardo Da Vinci

General George Patton

Steve Redgrave

Mohammad Ali

Richard Branson

Agatha Christie

Henry Ford

to name just a few.

Spelling, unless something is utterly unreadable, is really not that relevant in this sphere. Grammar is of greater importance to me - it can make messages completely indecipherable. Not much point in messaging someone if they cannot read and understand what you want to say.

Actually Theres no evidence to prove einstein or divinci were dyslexic I tried that before on another spelling post and got shot down! Its a mith "

Fair enough - but there are plenty of others - like Steven Spielberg, for example. The argument still stands: dyslexia does not mean stupid. I have known a lot of people with dyslexia - some at University - they are by no means stupid.

The fact is, as I said before, some people are hopeless at spelling and always will be. However, in the context of what they write you can usually work out what they mean so it is really not that much of a problem. It's not as if they are applying for a job on here that it matters so much! Poor grammar, though, makes some messages impossible to read. How many messages have people read where they have just though 'eh?' and then not responded to them?

Loving the 'excuses'..

Some people are not as smart as others, people are just being honest and making valid points.. hardly excuses.

so are people with dyslexia not smart?

Dyslexia does not effect someone's intelligence. It is a condition which effects their ability to read and spell, some sufferers describe text as moving when they read it and they can be helped by using anti glare screens and coloured screens to place over books.

Thank you so much for explaining to me what dyslexia is! Iv been dyslexic for almost 27 years and didnt know cause im to stupid to ask!!!

I have a sound knowledge of it as its one of the areas which I specialise in for work and thus I was passing my knowledge on."

I was being sarcastic also I know quite a bit about it myself! I can share something that was explained to me when I was a kid.... Now I dont know how true this it but it certainly helped me when I was young. Im not sure how well I can explain this without a pen and paper but will try.

Get yourself a piece of paper and draw a circle (this represents the brain) draw a small circle inside that circle. The small circle represents the part of the brain the normal person uses to read. Now the small circle in a dyslexics brain will be used for something else, the question is what? That person will be very good at something they just need to work out what it is.

Now whether this is true or false its a good thing to tel kids at school as I know from my own experience that school can be hard if you feel stupid this gives kids a bit of confidence and helps a lot.

See im not all that bad, I might even of helped a few people

The point of this line of research is that proficient readers read most words (except very long ones) principally through the first and last letters and a rapid recognition of the general shape and content of the entire word. That's why we typically read misspelled words with no trouble.

So therefore it doesn't matter about the spelling as long as we can understand the message.

Bad spelling and text speak always puts Mrs Noobs off. I've never really been that bothered.

But the spelling in the forums over the last 24 hours has been atrocious.

If you have a tablet, pc or phone with predictive text or spell check surely it doesn't need to be this bad."

I can't believe no one has mentioned dyslexia = daily sex

A lot of dyslexics have above average iq.

It's the people who are totally lazy that get my goat. Two of my 3 children are dyslexics and we are waiting to find out about the third one... It runs in my family.

We all have strengths and weaknesses. No one is perfect, but it's good to try and improve yourself it's about having a bit of pride. As long as you do your best you can be proud of yourself no matter what any one else says...

I'll confess and admit that my messages at times come across as a tad simple but that is due to the fact i mean to insert a better word but i've not the foggiest how to spell the word so swap it for an easier one to spell.

took me a while to learn how to spell necessary.. so before i could spell that i replaced it with 'need' or 'needed' lol

"Ok.

If you have a tablet, pc or phone with predictive text or spell check surely it doesn't need to be this bad."

Agree, I'm (Mrs) a complete nutcase when it comes to grammar and spelling with anything and it grinds my gears when people can't be bothered to use it properly in a message or a profile when they're suppose to be selling themselves! I can understand typos ect but sometimes it's just plain laziness.

"Aoccdrnig to rseerach at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a total mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Amzanig huh?

The point of this line of research is that proficient readers read most words (except very long ones) principally through the first and last letters and a rapid recognition of the general shape and content of the entire word. That's why we typically read misspelled words with no trouble.

So therefore it doesn't matter about the spelling as long as we can understand the message."

I've see the Cambridge University paragraph before. And I agree, mistakes I can live with, but if people are going to send indecipherable messages I just cannot see the point. We are, after all, meant to be communicating. If someone cannot do that, even at the simplest level, then I don't even want to know.

It's not being arsey - it's being realistic. I have to connect with someone - I cannot do that if I cannot understand them.

i couldn't agree more,if there's two things that really get on my tits.

poor spelling grrrrrr.

murder and rape grrrrrrrr

no wait a minute, that's three things.

so there's three things that really get on my tits, poor spelling, murder, and rape.

oh shit!!!i've just realised that by adding murder, and rape.i've greatly increased my chances of making a spelling mistake.

fuck it!!forget the murder,and rape,

it's just the spelling i hate.

If someone is trying to be a smart arse correcting grammar and or spelling, yes it bothers me a tad.

If people use text speak and I can not understand it, I will say.

Are we not all human who make mistakes?

I do typos, bad/wrong grammar and wrong spelling at times. Good grief, I even use coloquial words or abbreviate.

Does this make me thick or uneducated? Nope. I am highly educated ta very much. I tend to use my phone and hate auto correct. If people think less of me for the odd slip I don't really give a rats ass (sorry a rat's arse).

Can't be doing with people who think they're positively perfect in everyway because they can spell or use grammar correctly.

So much for the season of goodwill and all that shit. Geee whizz.

Feel free to correct any mistakes in my post. While you are there shove a red pen up your arse. It's a swinging site not a grammar/spelling site.

No wonder some are self concious for posting on here

A lot more in this world to worry about than bad spelling although I must say I hate the really heavy text speak like wd yiz lk 2 cum o 4 a fk being one we actually received lol.

I don't think mine is too bad although I have been picked off in the forums before for misspelling one or two words , my opinion is so what.

My punctuation may be a different matter though.

Personally I think the way a person spells speaks volumes. OK we have predictive text, but what's wrong in checking what you have written before pressing 'Post Message'. Poor spelling is no excuse but just shows a persons lack of intelligence.

"

Loving the 'excuses'..

Some people are not as smart as others, people are just being honest and making valid points.. hardly excuses.

so are people with dyslexia not smart?

Dyslexia does not effect someone's intelligence. It is a condition which effects their ability to read and spell, some sufferers describe text as moving when they read it and they can be helped by using anti glare screens and coloured screens to place over books.

Thank you so much for explaining to me what dyslexia is! Iv been dyslexic for almost 27 years and didnt know cause im to stupid to ask!!!

See im not all that bad, I might even of helped a few people "

I don't use spell checker and it is obvious neither do a lot of others and using spell checker will not make me or anyone else more intelligent.

My phone is having a hissy, or more likely I dont know how to use it.

Some get confused when discussing dyslexia etc as being lazy. Some accuse humans of being lazy etc when it could just be a slip of a finger or not knowing where a ' may go or a , belongs.

Ffs it's not a grammar or creative writing.

If you dont like move on or ignore.

Not rocket science!
