I was 25 I think. Passed practical first time after two or so months of lessons.

The night before my theory me and the ex stayed up drinking flavoured vodka and watching wrestlemania until the early hour and failed the theory the first time.

I got my first licence when I was 14. (Well, provisional permit, sort of a L licence…) full licence aged 16.

But when I got here in the UK it took me a whole 5 years for my brain to click and understand driving on the left. And pass my test. I was 32 and heavily pregnant with my 2nd child

Passed the theory 1st time both times.

Lol it’s funny now looking back and I can still see her face when she looked over at me as I hit the first one haha…yes love it now and every time I come to a speed bump I go over it nice and easy and still remember that day as if was yesterday

Maybe that was my issue, I started driving on my dad’s farm. Took me 7 attempts before I passed aged 19. Confidence was a major problem though then each time. Finally changed instructor and passed.

Burnleyish (She/They)

Had some lessons when I was 18 but never really bothered about it.

Got divorced at 28 and decided I needed to drive so booked one of those intensive week to pass your test courses.

Passed first time with apparently with the record of lowest minors my instructor had ever known with apparently the assessor with the highest fail rate in the county. Was quite proud of that.

Husband passed recently at 40.

He had about 3 months of weekly lessons then had one lesson a month while we tried to get a test / waited for test day. He passed first time.

22. Took me at least a year. Had to swap instructors, my first was having personal issues and then I managed to get one who was more local to me.

Failed the first time, but passed the second. I even had an assessor in the back seat, who was 'supposedly' assessing my examiner on my second.

23. It wasn't worth me learning to drive or get a car as up to that point I was working only a mile and a half away from home and earning really terrible money

As I'd driven a fork lift at work for six years, I was already very competent at steering, braking etc, so it only took about six lessons to get me through my test which I passed first time

After completing the test, the examiner said, with a very disappointed look on his fzce, "I'm very pleased to tell you that you have passed" and all that went through my mind at that moment was "you miserable twat"

Right, where's the thread about your first car gone?

My sister was in the police at the time, so I put the car in her name (which you were allowed to do then) and went fully comprehensive cover and anyone over the age of 21. Cost £96

East London

I was 29, because I used to have nightmares that I was driving a car and the wheels fell off, resulting in me hurtling uncontrollably towards a huge lorry at a crossing.

I got fed up with relying on lifts to competitions so took lessons.

I had 8 lessons and passed with 2 minors.

I had a brand new Nissan Micra waiting for me to drive when I passed.

I grew up on a farm, so started driving tractors, etc from aged 12. By the time I was legally(!) allowed on the road, all I needed was a few specific lessons and passed my test first time, about 6 weeks after my 17th birthday (took that long to get a test date!)

I passed my driving test when I was 21.

I got my provisional when I was 16 and got a scooter, then a motorbike.

I promised myself I wasn’t doing my CBT a 3rd a time. Was just about to start bike lessons and some one said, why don’t you do your car test.

Done my theory test and book my driving test, started lessons and passed my driving test first go.

Age 18 and first-time try. I can't think of anything I did wrong in particular. Dad might have bribed the test instructor. They did back then in the Caribbean in the 90sand 80s. Dad still gets away with driving d*unk in the Caribbean so......I wish a judge would take his licence really....

My father has owned a garage/MOT/scrap yard my whole life, so by 14yo I was fairly good at squeezing cars, vans, wagons into tight spaces, passed a few weeks after my 17th birthday after 7 or 8 professional leasons, banned when I was 18yo, licence back at 19, my insurance was that high I was scared of making any more fu@kups so it calmed me wright down, getting banned probably done me a favour.

Always remember my driving instructor telling me "my job is to teach you how to pass your test, when you pass then you start learning how to drive"
