Is it hard to let go of the one you love?

From the land of haribos.

It is not about me, but I saw a very emotional episode of eastenders the 25th of december. I shed a tear, did you also see it?

It was about mick carter (dany dyer, great actor) and his ex wife linda carter, that he still love.

Here is how it went. they met in the hall way at the back of the pub, as mick had got married to janine the day before, mick and linda talked about memories they had, as they had liked each other from the childhood, both was crying a bit and after they did that, linda said that it is ok mick. I want you to be happy, mick said that he regretted that he married janine and that he have always loved her (linda), it was a heart breaking moment.

To sum it up, mick didnt want to marry janine, but always wanted to be with linda.

My question is, what is your thoughts about it? Have you gone through with something similar and could you relate to it?

My thoughts about it is that yes, it must be a very heart breaking moment, especially as there are so much history between 2 people

Don't watch EastEnders, so I cannot comment on the storyline.

On the more philosophical point, I believe love is like a butterfly. It is at its most beautiful when it flies free. It dances and turns and lifts the soul. If you hold it too tight you crush it and are left with a pale fading imprint of what it used to be.

No. I've been broken up with twice, the last time almost twenty years ago. The first one hurt for a week or so, the second for a couple of days. But that may be because I held back so as not to be too hurt. Not consciously, but I wonder.

Do people in real life ever let go of the one they love in that way?

I’m not sure I’ve ever read such a beautiful analogy of love and love lost. Thank you Sir. And this is very much how I feel about it

i still love most of my exs to some extent - otherwise why was i ever in a relationship with them in the first place? Thankfully never been with any nasty witches.

Never happened to me until recently but, unfortunately, yes. It doesn’t always happen after having a lot of history together, sometimes it ends before it could even begin. I think that is even more heartbreaking as it would leave you wondering if all the things that could’ve been but won’t. You don’t have time to fall out of love or feel that things are ending, so, yes, it is hard.

I think it must be hard to be separated from someone you love. Letting them go is something that must be done for your own peace of mind I guess.

I think the last verse of Pearl Jams epic ‘Black’ sums it up well- Eddie Vedders voice is so hauntingly painful and amazing.

I know someday you'll have a beautiful life

I know you'll be a star

In somebody else's sky

But why

Why

Why can't it be

Oh can't it be mine

Thankfully I've never had to do it. I can't imagine the heartache I would feel if I had to let the one I deeply love go. Life would be unbearable.

Secret hideaway in the pennines

I have only ever truly loved 2 women.

The first was my wife, who was my soul mate and best friend, when she passed it took years to get over her.

The second was my last long term partner, and she destroyed me when she cheated on me. It took months to get over that, even though I ended it

I let someone go, I don't love him but he still loves me and regularly tells me so. I'm never sure what to say when I can't tell him what he wants to hear.

Yes it’s been very hard for me after a 25 year marriage and 4 kids I still love him deeply but he was the one to leave I think it would make it sting less if I didn’t have to see him regularly because he comes to pick our daughter up

If they are no longer part of your life leave it and wall away.

Danny Dyer a good actor? Ever no, soaps with few exceptions are 9 to 5 jobs where you coast along getting paid to put food on the table. Apart from Sarah Lancaster who is brilliant in Happy Velly and other productions very few ever have a career outside of the soap.

In the words of Abba.

Where are those happy days? They seem so hard to find

I try to reach for you, but you have closed your mind

Whatever happened to our love? I wish I understood

It used to be so nice, it used to be so good
