"When I'm shortlisting I read personal statements to see how they fit with the person specification for the role, hopefully you should have been sent this from the company, so try and align you Personal statement to this as much as you can. Arieal x" Agreed. Also identify any key words and include them.

Arieal x" ^^^This. I usually copy/paste the essential and desirable requirements on the person spec, put them in a bullet pointed list, then start adding examples of how I can demonstrate these. I then removed the bullet points and stitch my skills/experience examples together into a coherent letter/statement. As a recruiting manager, this also makes it easy to spot how the applicant might meet the person spec. Good luck!

The person they need is me - it’s a new role & whoever gets it will be my line manager which is why I need it

"HELP!!! I have to complete one for a job application. I’ve never done one before. What gumph do I put in it??? I really, really want this job doesn’t seem enough….. J x" Look at job description. Match your experience and skills with the essential criteria and as much of the desirables as possible. Really think about what you are putting down. Everything you say is important and should be backed up by evidence. Think - So what, who cares? Make everything you put down about getting the role.

"If it's exclusively internal , they have already decided. Outline your personal characteristics What you get out of the job What you would bring to the job ..... I'd especially include .... I know that who ever gets this position will be my line manager and it is important to me to have a line manager that is .............. and .......... and .......... and .......... I thought that if that is the type of line manager I want and the business needs that I should really make sure that we get that type of line manager by putting myself forward and making sure that happens. Don't offer free blow jobs " Oh bloody hell that’s a good paragraph to include!! Thanks GC. My days of shagging the boss are over but there was a time where I would have with this one. Not his boss though. He looks like Penfold

" I think my last role I put something like I want to come in and sort out {X] increase the capability maturity , put in a good no.2 who could develop & succeed me , bring in key recruits from my network for each country , be part of the IPO success and see a women in leadership mentoring programme rolled out globally and then exit in approx. 3 years. Obviously the interview was then very easy - they just said how much ?

Don't offer free blow jobs " If it's exclusively internal but are interviewing, there's more than one candidate. They'd better not have made their minds up! The panel will have to be able to objectively justify why they selected candidate A over B, C, D etc. Why someone wants the job is a fairly minimal part of the application - how one meets the person spec is far more important, same for internal and external candidates. I've seen so many internal applicants lose out on jobs to externals, because the internal applicants assume that the panel knows about their skills/what they've done and make less effort in their applications. When I've applied to internal vacancies, I've assumed that the panel don't know me at all (even if they do know me).

The other position is a no-brainer as someone near enough does the role already. I think 2 of my current team might apply so could be tough as on paper there’s probably not much between us. I’m ahead on length of time doing role & I can cover everyone else’s role in my half of the team but the other 2 only have knowledge of their own areas. I’m just rubbish at putting it down & selling myself. This is the 1st time I’ve applied for a job since the days when you said you were interested & either got the job or had a pretend interview….

The fact that you have knowledge/ experience of the others roles is a very relevant point. You can do a managerial position to a much higher standard if you know more about all areas of the work you will be covering. Think you are getting some great advise here J.
