"Currently trying to get rid of a kidney stone, anyone else had one. Drink more water im told. " Drinking too much water can put a strain on the function of the kidneys. Cucumbers are good for the kidneys. So if you do require extra intake of water, throw in a few slices of cucumbers also. Someone mentioned cranberry juice.. meh, it won't cause you harm but shop brought is mainly filled with sugars, that makes things worse. Reduce sodium, have apple cider vinegar tea. Depending on what type of stones you have, in the main they usually stem from high calcium oxalate foods such as beets, wheat, chocolate, sweet potato and nuts. High protein (no, not That protein ) can also cause stones to grow. Processed meats, sulfates are high risk. I don't recommend a vegan diet but maybe less red meats will help. Chicken/turkey is fine but try and moderate. Limit high oxalate foods. Some can be broken down so small they pass almost unoticed.. so good to catch them small n get em OUT. Otherwise it is simply the worst pain a human can go thru. Histamine blockers also causes stones, so be wary of that. Stress can also cause stones to build. Renal specialists will obviously give you the best advice. Don't trust the GPs advice only. Remember your kidneys are your bodies filtration system. We must look after them. Sorry for the ultra long message, but I do care for the wellbeing of others. 3

"Lithotripsy is radiowaves that break them up, yes had that and started off my pain. " I had them in both kidneys 12yrs ago and had lithotripsy but by the time the appointment came one had moved into my bladder and they can’t blast them unless they are stuck in one place and it was a massive one and I passed it 2weeks later when I was on a camping holiday in Wales I screamed when it came out and collapsed on the ground in agony never felt pain like it resembled a sugar puff in size

"My son had them a few months ago and was hospitalised twice. The put him some kind of machine to crush them up. He doesn't know if he's passed them as he's not been in pain since thankfully" im sure he would know if he passed them when I had lithotripsy they wouldn’t let me leave hospital until I’d emptied my bladder it was like pissing sand and blood wasn’t a pleasant sight

"No longer free on NHS but privet you can have SWL involves using ultrasound (high-frequency sound waves) to pinpoint where a kidney stone is. Ultrasound shock waves are then sent to the stone from a machine to break it into smaller pieces so it can be passed in your urine." had mine blasted probably 12yrs ago on nhs was told there’s only one hospital that dos it and it’s from Liverpool they apparently travel around the country so there was a big waiting list because they only spend one day at a time at each hospital

"Currently trying to get rid of a kidney stone, anyone else had one. Drink more water im told. " Doc can give you a tablet that relaxes the tube from your kidney to the bladder to allow the stone to pass more easily, if they haven’t given it, ask for it. I’ve had it once, and once was enough! Have known people to be problematic with frequent stones

"Apple Cider Vinegar might be worth a try. It contains acetic acid which might help dissolve all or some of the stones." yes strange I didn’t get anymore stones after I started taking it then when I stopped within a few months they started again and I’ve been plagued with them since, I only stopped taking it when I got coeliac disease as I thought it may not be doing my stomach any good

"I had one, it got stuck in my prostate. Had to have surgery to remove it. Had to have a catheter in for a week after. It was a miserable experience. " that has been a worry for me while they are doing nothing about them they maybe getting bigger and turn into a medical emergency I need a solution that gets rid of them rather than being told to come back in 3 months (and that appointment gets cancelled and eventually become 6mths)

"Had one that was 1cm and needed a procedure to break it up then pass it. Just so you know the odds are 1 in 1 million that you can get kidney stones and 1 and 10 that you can get them again. I've had them every other year for about 10 years. " been getting them 30yrs with a break of 10yrs until 2021 and they are affecting my quality of life very badly

"Had mine blasted as you say in December and xmas day I was in A and E. 6 weeks later had op to remove a 10mm stone and guess what no stone to be found. Thankyou doctors for not giving me a scan before my op. Drink plenty of lemon water it must dissolve certain stones because it did mine. " I had them in both kidneys but when the time came for lithotripsy one had disappeared into my bladder so had to come out on its own which it did 2weeks later that was the worst one I’ve ever had in 30yrs hard to believe how it managed to come out, on the subject of lemon water originally my kidney doctor told me to drink lemonade and cut down on dairy products now I’ve been referred to this latest urologist he has said eat dairy and all these remedies are utter rubbish and don’t work I’ve been given a list of food what to/not to eat also told to cut out salt from my diet
