"Can anyone remember some of the old TV shows or series that would just not go out on air for whatever reason nowadays. First off, Love Thy Neighbour Hmmmmm, Love Thy Neighbour. I do wonder what the reaction to that would be now?? Because from memory, Eddie, the white bigot, was always made to look foolish. Bill, the black neighbour, never rose to any of the name calling or derogatory terms used. And the two wives, Barbie and the white wife (i cant remember her name), got on brilliantly. The same with Till Death Us Do Part. Alf Garnett was always made to look stupid and like an idiot. By his daughter, his son-in-law. I remember one episode in a pub with the brilliant Derek Griffiths. He totally upstaged Alf by laughing and joking...leaving Alf speechless. " That was really the whole point of the show, highlighting the idiot racist bigot for the fool he was. For today's audiences I doubt a watered down version would have the same impact. But I can't see anyway they could possibly use the same language again. I never really found it funny if I'm honest.

"Every programme is of its time and very few are totally palatable in the years after they've been aired. Society changes and frankly a lot of the programmes that people say couldn't be aired today, often are on BBC4 or other channels." I think it's more a case of if it were made/remade for a modern audience it would have huge changes that would in some cases not resemble the original show/concept. So it is less that these things can still be shown, done, or said and more about it just would be left out instead of actually cut out in the name of being censored. The inbetweeners, not all that long ago in the grand scheme of things. Reruns as far as I know are not edited or censored (after watershed/streamed) yet if it were remade things would be greatly changed and I doubt it would be half as popular because it would have lost a great deal of its personality that made it what it was.

" I used to compete in motorcycle trials as a teenager, riding over various obstacles, through streams, etc, as well as arena events riding over oil barrels, through waste skips and over the tops of cars. I wasn't that good, but I did win a few trophies and still have them on display on a shelf. I'd love to see something similar on tv. I watch indoor arena events on YouTube. "Can anyone remember some of the old TV shows or series that would just not go out on air for whatever reason nowadays. First off, Love Thy Neighbour Love Thy Neighbour is my all time favourite. Sadly the PC brigade have made sure it will never see the light of day again. " "Love Thy Neighbour" could be seen as educational in the sense that it depicted the reality of racial tensions and prejudice that existed in society at the time. However, it is important to note that the way in which these issues were portrayed in the show, through racist jokes and language, would not be considered appropriate or acceptable by today's standards. The show's humour relied heavily on the offensive stereotypes and it reinforced negative attitudes and prejudices, rather than challenging or educating about them. It's worth mentioning that some people may argue that it is important to understand the past, and that shows like "Love Thy Neighbour" can serve as a reminder of the attitudes and prejudices that existed in the past and the progress that has been made in terms of race relations. But it is also important to consider the potential harm that these shows can cause by perpetuating stereotypes and offensive attitudes.
