How do social events run

Dublin

Hey guys and gals I’ve been asking around with friends and people with experiences in meeting at social events and more or less I’m asking what the heading my says.As a complete fresh face to social events what would I expect to happen. I know it’s invite only and 9 times out of 10 smart casual wear, but I would like to know what the run down for most events are like. Im not particularly talking about sexually but is there a standard kind of way they run, I’d be going as a single male and I’m a little but intimated at the thought of showing up and not having a fucking clue haha

the middle somewhere

Have you ever been to a pub for a drink with friends? If you have, it’s just like that. A group of people having a get together over a few drinks, a chat and maybe a dance.

If you have never been to a pub for a drink with friends, it is still just like going to a pub with friends.

The thing to expect is expect nothing. It is just a group of people on a night out. If you do decide to attend one enjoy yourself

Yes, but add in a lot more poorly repressed high libidos.

Yes this!

Just go in with no expectations other than a night but of socialising with other like minded folk! There is so much variety with different social events so some are run in public places where there’s still members of the public around, some will be bigger and have their own area/venue. Some will have guest lists and others may just be a message on the day for the venue and show up.

Totally normal to be nervous as it is so nerve wracking walking in (I still get super nervous!) but as long as you’re in the mindset to just have a laugh then you’ll be golden!

As a female, the advice I’d give is don’t come across as creepy i.e standing not speaking and staring at folk or only talking about sex. As much as we’re all on here, the first thing you’re saying to people and focussing on maybe shouldn’t be sexual things. And maybe don’t get too d*unk….a little dutch courage as I usually have to have a cheeky one before but you don’t want to appear totally d*unk

All the socials I’ve been to though have been super positive and it’s a great way to meet folk! Good luck OP with your first social!

As an Englishman from a certain social and cultural background, I would like to point out that my libido, like my emotions, is very tightly repressed indeed.

I would expect nothing less. I'd also like to add, this made me laugh far too much. I'm sure when either are unlocked they're a force to be reckoned with.

This is good advice. I'd add... Don't get your phone out and start checking out the woman's Fab profile and commenting on her tits and twat whilst she is stood next to you! It's a little weird

In a town full of colours

I'd imagine it is the same here as over there.

So as above large organised socials, are like with mates up the pub and occasionally you might find someone you connect with, and then it's like pulling up the pub.

Of course the club socials are slightly more sexually related and lots of people will be going to the club to potentially play, after the social.

House party socials are literally drinks and then you essentially start playing

If they have a telegram group, join that so you can get to know everyone beforehand and remember there will be loads of people in your shoes

We’ve got our first social event in Leeds on Saturday and we’re so nervous! But also ridiculously excited to meet some few low fabbers for a drink and a laugh together

Going in with zero expectations

You mean in the pub, right? I’ve always been struck by how much less common non-consensual touching, lewd comments and aggressively sexual behaviour happens on the scene compared to in a pub/club!

I’m also interested in this. I’ve been on fab for about five years and only interacted with those whom I’ve messaged. Been to a couple of clubs but they were poorly attended nights.

I would love to meet like minded folk through organised socials but wouldn’t have the first clue how to find out about them. Do people advertise them on the forum? Or are they to be found in the ‘meets’ search function?

I’m a confident guy, but I’d also be pretty nervous turning up on my own. I know this is stupid, but in my mind I’m normal and everyone else is beautiful and fascinating and already know each other well.

Hey, I’m not lending anyone my shoes on a first date, let alone at a social free-for-all.

Look in the forum " MEETS REQUESTS AND PARTIES".There's a few advertised all the time, you might need to scroll down to find one in your area, or keep checking every couple of weeks. If there aren't any, then find a pub with a function room that's free and organise one.

Up North

There’s a few events up north where the host asks if they can finger you on entry. I’d give those ones a wide berth unless you’re into that kind of stuff,

They come in all shapes and sizes. Some are not very welcoming to single men so perhaps avoid those, otherwise they are usually friendly and inclusive to newbies.

Socials are just another way single men get ignored, only in person!

Haha! To be fair, I always make a point of if I see a single guy standing on his own to go and have a chat (as if their night couldn’t get any worse )!

I actually try to do that. When I’m at a club if I see a single man standing on his own, I go around and say hello
