Some Shaving Questions

I recently started seeing a guy and he prefers me clean shaven, that's fine I prefer my guys without facial hair too.

So I've been shaving much more regularly and I'm shocked at how quickly my hair grows back. If I shave in the morning, by the evening I'm feeling stubble all over my face and it's not comfortable.

Is it the same for you?

Am I getting something wrong?

Should I use a different razor? Currently using a Gillette Max Pro 3

What lotions do you guys use to help avoid rashes?

Yes I know I should've probably figured this out when I was a teen but hey ho here we are.

Any tips or advice is welcomed

My dad told me when I was younger, the more you shave the quicker it grows back. Not entirely sure how much truth there is in that, I haven't shaved regularly since I was in my teens

I think this has been proved its is an old wives (or dad’s!) tale as there is no scientific reason why it would.

Yeah I guess if it was true, some guys that shave everyday for years could grow a full beard before lunch

Yeah.. Pretty true.. But once you've started you can't stop it's like unbreaking a mirror.

As for 2 shaves a day... Yeah. Happens if you want to be smooth... Just terrible on your skin... (and budget)

No, shave with shaving gel. And look after your skin, cleanse it and moisturise it. I do a face mask once or twice a week.

I have clear skin and never have rashes (and sometimes shave twice a day) you’d never know I even shaved

Wet shave in the morning but use an electric razor for quick shave in the evening if needed. Obviously more convenient if you're out and feeling a bit stubbly.

Hadn't considered going to get a shave, might be nice one time, probably couldn't afford it once a week.

It's not expensive to get a really good close shave

Buy gillette or wilkinson sword 3 blade disposables (I bought a pack of W/S from B&M bargains the other day for £2.40)

Any aerosol style shaving gel or foam, cost a quid max

A decent after shave balm, such as Nivea or L'oreal will cost less than £3

Only shave after a hot bath or shower and make sure you wash your face preferably with a face wash which should cost a quid

Apply shave gel/foam to face whilst the razor is soaking in hot water

Shave three times

First in a downwards direction

Second shave is inwards, ears to nose direction

third shave is in an upwards direction

Rinse your face with cold water and apply some after shave balm

Soon you'll be shaving like this in ten minutes and you'll be as smooth as a babies bottom

Yer if I was to wet shave twice a day my skin dose not like it and modern electric shavers are better then they where.

I don't think you can slow down hair growth with a razor unfortunately. You would need laser hair removal or wax, and even then it would take a while to notice a difference.

I'm the same, I shave and the next day I can already feel little hairs poking through.

I've thought waxing for the rest of my body... do people get their faces waxed?

Yes the little hairs are very annoying, I'm starting to realise what a relentless up keep keeping myself smooth is going to be

Chest shave in the shower use conditioner as it softens the hair so softer when it grows back.

Back wax twice a year sorted.

Sack veet or other hair removal cream but timing is key or it can burn.

My husband isn't particularly swarthy, and can get away with one shave lasting him about 3 days before he has to have another one. He uses a Gillette Mach and Bluebeard's Revenge cutthroat razor and gets a good finish with both.

There are creams out there which are designed to slow down beard-growth - just a matter of routing out the good from the bad.

I have mixed feelings about hair removal cream, it sort of works but it leaves little hairs all over my balls, and this is after leaving it on for 10 minutes. Plus I have pretty sensitive skin and the regrowth is really uncomfortable.

I think shaving or waxing would probably be best for me

Have you tried a facial oil that will help to soften the hair? You could always apply it to your face before spending time together so it's smoother. My partner wears one sometimes and I notice such a difference. I'm sure it would work with short regrowth stubble. It's not a permanent solution but it might be worth a shot.

Off topic but how do you shave your balls and dick? I trim with an electric trimmer but can’t do they on the plums. So what do you do use? I get ingrown hairs

I used a Philips 3000 body groomer for ages, that did a pretty reasonable job of getting rid of most of the hair, but the regrowth meant I had prickly balls within a couple days.

I've started using Veet hair removal cream recently, but I'm thinking I might stop as it doesn't seem to get all the hairs and the regrowth is just as prickly, plus I don't feel comfortable putting such harsh substances on my little guys.

I'm thinking I might start using those deposable Bic razors in the shower and try and do it every other day.

Check out body groomers and see how you get on. A tip I have is to dunk your balls in cold water before trimming them, the cold water will make them tight and compact and much easier to navigate without accidently nicking yourself

If you want a close shave get a shave cream and a safety razor. A tube of Proraso cream is around £5, it's thicker than any aerosol or gel so softens your hair/skin. Double edged razors are simply a very sharp blade and don't clog. You use so little of the cream that it last pretty much a whole year.

I use Merkur Super Platinum Blades (now renamed), they're £5-6 for 10. They easily last for 5-7 shaves I'd say as you can re-sharpen them as well as turn them over.

The only real outlay is the razor itself, you want something well made, with a long handle and something with weight so you know where the angle is sitting. Mine is a Merkur, bought in a sale for £35 down from £55. I don't know how much gilette are, maybe £20+ but they change their head types constantly, you save as safety razors are built to last and blades are a standard fit (you can buy sample packs to see which you prefer). My last was easily 15 years old before buying new.

If you can be bothered to watch this it might give you some tips. They do take some getting used to. Just warm your face, go with the grain, use the left over cream for the second shave and go against the grain - no need for a brush just use your hands to lather.

See my post above about how to shave your face! This is replicated on my balls, but I shave my nuts with a razor that's at the end of it's life

I recommend Magic Powder rather than Veet etc. Available on eBay.

It’s much less harsh, you can leave it on for longer without it burning.

Apparently some men use it on their faces also.

The regrowth is definitely softer than shaving!!

I kept myself fastidiously smooth … particularly my ‘bits’ and do this every few days whilst in the shower.

I tend to use a bit of hair conditioner … but in trumps of razor, I always go for a Gillette Venus. It is a woman’s razor, and has a moisturiser either side of the blades … I swear by them and have never had any problem.

I could never imagine going back to any public hair .. just not my thing now.
