Whatever happened to the Social Gathering thread?

It seems to have been disappeared.

Oh, well. Round 3, now that Brucey has actualised his ideal and created his own version, is here.

1 idea was hiring a club. Another renting a huge house for a long weekend. Maybe even a Fab holiday?

Is anyone new in? Can we confirm who is in, at least in theory? Any other ideas for venues?

It's such a compelling idea. A reification of the Lounge. A kitchen instead of food threads; a Library for the book threads; lots of bedrooms for everything else.

It was not a joke, but also intended as something different from a 'normal' meet. I'd pictured it becoming a proper meeting thread once we'd finalised some plans.

They got full really quickly

I think it’s a cunning plan. It’s not a social as it’s not just local, it’s not a meet.

And, I can’t emphasise this enough, it’s not an orgy.

Most of the regular Socials draw people from all over, not just local. The Manchester one in particular is much more of a national Forum social. But of course another one is always welcome.

This is good to know. As Misty says, it would be a kind of grandiose social mostly - though as with all socials, of course, individuals might disappear to bedrooms at times. But just strolling around the grounds with some, fetching wood for the fire with others, chatting over a late brandy with yet others...the Lounge, brought to life for a few precious days.

Others will know the history but I think it just built up into one od the most popular Socials and drew a wide crowd, including from abroad! They are three times a year and advertised in the Meets Section if you are interested.

Manchester is a reasonably central place in the UK with good transport links and plenty of hotels... so probably.

Check out the social profile for the details.

The Manchester Lounge social used to be something that a lot of forum users used to attend.

I don’t think that’s the case now or there wasn't that many forum users on the last Manchester social at Christmas - other socials have now popped up which a lot of forums users go to instead. UTB for example.

When I went to MLS several years ago, it was pretty much putting faces to names from the forums.

Having another forum only social would be fantastic

Is this is going to be a Manchester alternative then I am absolutely in with alacrity!

Let's not do this again.

London is a wonderful city. So are many other places, most of which are more fairly situated and all of which, by definition, are cheaper and closer to good countryside.

But for now, it's just about gauging interest and style of venue, how long it should be for, etc.

Barges look pretty and are almost impossible to live in.

If it must be on a ship, let it be a 5-masted clipper, and we'll sail it to Tahiti. And maybe accidentally on purpose wreck it there.

It sounds like a great idea for a forum social.....

There are currently big socials in London and Manchester...maybe a Midlands social would be a good location?

Just be aware from experience that it is very hard work to organise a social but it can be done...

Midges tho

We’ll all have to wear nets over our heads but we can bling them up a bit, plus think of all the hotties in kilts

I fear the face-covering nets would outweigh the kilt in the sexy stakes?

Ugh I didn’t think about that, regardless Scotland seems like a fantastic idea

Hold on...you in live in Scotland!!!

Maybe

Deny it .. Hes got nothing on you

It says Fife next to username

They might just like bananas "

Wait, what? Banana's come from Fife??

The microclimate around Chez Shiv must be hot enough to grow anything.

Covent Garden

"London is a canny hike but I'd make the effort to meet some of you lovely folks

Try Spurschick one - advertised in London forum. Central/North London social. Very friendly bunch "

Totally agree, ^ the Central North London Social is wonderful.

And also look out for the other London one, called "New social by flamenco friends 3rd of February", under the London section.
