"It's about a blind man with his guide dog. By law (Equalities Act), guides dogs must be allowed into taxis, so this is a story about taxi operators breaching the law. It happens to me when some taxi drivers see me waiting in the wheelchair. Presumably because they CBA getting out to help stow my chair in their boot, they drive past then cancel the booking. This has happened quite a few times when using Uber in both Manchester and London. It's fucking annoying, is what it is. Stick to black cabs, you can get in and without having to leave your wheelchair. " Black cabs cost a small fortune and I am able to transfer to a regular seat. It is much safer to sit in a car seat with a seatbelt if you can, compared to being attached to the taxi whilst in your wheelchair. If it crashes, I'd have a far better chance of surviving in the regular seatbelt. Obviously if someone cannot transfer, then they must use a wheelchair adapted vehicle.

"A blind man with a blind dog reports that they have been turned down for taxi rides over 30 times because he has a dog but appay this is an illegal practice by the taxi companies. As a marketing idea akin to dog friendly hotels why don't some company advertise as dog friendly taxi operators. In the days of the yellow pages taxis were always listed alphabetically and this why so many companies were called A1 or AAA Taxis etc. They could use the same tactic and call themselves Alsation Taxis. This is actually all over the news but Tom asks the question. Has anyone thought that some members of the public are allergic to dogs and would not want to be the next fare after a dog owner and whether companies can afford to take a car off the road to deep clean it because a dog has been in there and it might only be a £5 fare. This is all over the news. What's going on here guys?" Appalling you can take a dog on a train so for me the allergy thing is an excuses and again Black cab probably a better bet. But if every one uses Uber there won't be any for the people that need them..

Phoned El Local taxi company on their landline; transferred into a seat and stowed my wheelchair in the boot. Like I do on the off occasion I need a taxi from home, because we don't really have app based taxis out in the deepest suburbs. Interestingly, they tend not to drive away when they see the chair. I will always choose a regular taxi over a black cab, even without the wheelchair. Black cabs cost a mint. We're not even allowed to claim work expenses for black cabs unless they're the only option, because regular taxis are so much cheaper.

"Any fab taxi drivers have an opinion ?" I wouldn't have a dog in my taxi if I was a driver. I'd have to go home. When i walk my two dogs over the field, its incredible seeing a lot of the Asian families reactions to mine and other dogs. Kids running scared to their parents...mums grabbing their children as if saving them from a rampaging tiger. I try, when possible, to encourage them to stroke my dogs, to show them they aren't dangerous. Build their confidence. Im guessing the kids fear of dogs comes from their parents influence. But not sure where the parents inherited it from.

"Any fab taxi drivers have an opinion ?" As a cab driver for 4 years.. A taxi driver can apply to be medically exempt legally from carrying guide dogs on medical grounds. If a non exempt driver arrives at a pickup (we are not always told the passenger has a guide dog) and then finds out a passenger has a guide dog, whilst the driver can reject the job, unless medically exempt, they can be seen as breaking their taxi license agreements as we are legally oblidged to carry passengers with guide dogs. I pickup guide dogs regularly and never had issues with other passengers complaining about dog hairs, nor would I go straight to the valet to clean the car out incase someone is allergic to dog hairs. How far do we go? Nut allergies, etc. To much loss of business if we cleaned our cars 4 5 times a day just incase someone has an allergy of some kind. We pick passengers up and take them to their destinations, not quiz them on allergies before they sit in our cars. We would make no money if passengers wanted sanitized 100% clean cars.

There are theories this might originate in a period when rabies was a real issue (as it still is in some parts of the world). Anyway, they're an unclean animal and getting the saliva on you is considered a Very Bad Thing.
