Yes. Big fan of most things by Hitchcock & Orson Welles.

I went through a phase a few years back of watching them. 12 Angry Men is my favourite and great example of getting the absolute most out of a simple story

I've really gotten into Orson Welles in a big way over the last couple of years. As well as Kane, I think Touch Of Evil, The Trial and Chimes At Midnight might be my favourites.

Pi is an old favourite.

I saw that for the first time recently and was a bit worried that it wouldn't live up to its reputation. I was totally wrong - brilliant film.

Would Schindler's List be classed as black n white or is that cop out as its new compared to those mentioned and not fully in black n white due to the girl in the red coat

I echo the comments on Orson Wells' films and would throw in "The Third Man" although technically not his film.

Bogart and ensemble make "Casablanca" brilliant. "The Maltese Falcon"is good as well.

I'm also a big fan of the Universal horror films - the original Frankenstein, Dracula, Creature From The Black Lagoon, The Wolf Man - and other b&w horror like Night Of The Demon.

I watched the original Miracle on 34th Street during Christmas and loved it.

I used to love watching old black n white TV. The Munsters, Phil Silvers, Rawhide and the Laurel and Hardy short films.

Also I've always wanted to watch Metropolis but my dyslexia makes it hard for me to keep up with the text and spoils my enjoyment.

Metropolis is hugely influential and a great achievement...but an absolute chore to watch. Honestly the Queen video for Radio Gaga has pretty much all the clips you need from the film.

I really like film noir - I've watched loads of it over the last couple of years. The shadows and contrasts, the snappy dialogue and dynamite dames.

For years I was against those because I felt they toned Holmes down and made Watson an idiot. But then a few years ago at Christmas a channel showed a few of them back to back and I really enjoyed them - they were shot like film noir, and a lot more interesting than I was expecting. I need to get hold of a box set.

Saw the David Lean Great Expectations over Christmas, maybe the best Dickens film adaptation.

The great thing about most black and white films is that they relied on a decent script and fairly good acting, not special effects or CGI.

It's probably the noir film you'd use to explain what noir is to someone who didn't know. I'd probably choose Kiss Me Deadly as my favourite noir, although that has a genre twist. The Big Sleep is also right up there.

Over the last couple of years I've come to the conclusion that I've missed my calling and should have been a cinematographer

Only the good ones did, which is why they are still around today. There were just as many with terrible scripts, acting and effects…but no-one has preserved or shows them.

Perhaps you should? I wouldn’t know where to start but I love the art form. My favourite noir film is Blood Simple but then I do absolutely love the Coen Brothers films
