At a restaurant, if you only have 2 courses, do you go for the starter and main or the main and dessert? I'm a dessert guy so will happily skip a starter

Depends on my mood and the menu.

If there's sticky toffee pudding and custard on the menu I might be swayed to have dessert.

Most of the time I only have a main, as I can't eat a lot in one sitting.

Penis colada for laters?"

Very tempting, unless you're offering Porn Star Martinis, then that's a definite

"Starter and main. Don't like cake or ice cream and not got much of a sweet tooth...yeah I know I'm weird lol"

Dessert menus are usually quite limited. I don't like cheesecake, or ice cream that much. Don't like fudge cake or anything rich in chocolate.I'd rather a fruit salad with cold custard or a steamed pudding and hot custard.

Starter then a main but if anything treacle pudding related is on then it's main and dessert

Alluringly mysterious

I have terrible FOMO generally so prefer to split a starter and pudding with my dining companion then I get the best of both worlds.

"Does anyone else check the dessert menu before deciding?

Like, if theres nothing good on the dessert menu, I might have a starter instead...

Or for that matter, have a starter as a main and not have a main at all?"

I'm easy to please, I'll find a dessert I like regardless of the menu

"Hmm depends on the starter usually I get that but as a side with the main "

Ahhh so you can save time for when the dessert comes around. Good call

It really doesn't matter what the menu is tbh if the people involved really don't care what's on the food menu BUT they let each other know that they're on another menu for each other.

"Share a starter. A main each then share a dessert "

I and my partner do that whenever it is one of those any two courses deals.

The restaurant never has a problem with this and proffers extra spanners and platters in anticipation of an appropriate tip.

I can't see the point in having a little starter. When I'm hungry I need to eat ! If I had to wait for a main meal after having a little mouthful I'd be biting my fingers off.
