Stranger's smile

Tell me about a moment you made a stranger smile OR when a random person made you happy, please

The other day I was walking home, probably about 10 metres away there was a young girl/woman walking towards me. I loved the way she moved and styled herself, with beautiful long locks popping from under her hoodie onto her coat. Nicely put together but quite serious looking face from afar. When I got to pass her she wasn't facing me as she was waiting to cross the road but I did say in passing - I love your outfit. She turned around to say thanks with the most radiant smile I've seen in a while and her pretty face and gorgeous eyes just lit up with happiness magic. Made my day.

Share your moments. Maybe we can smile some more about them.

Gayle often goes up to a woman in the street or pub and compliments her hair, face, clothes etc. On the spur of the moment xx it's lovely to see the pleasure they both get xx

That's a nice energy exchange right? With no expectations and nothing to gain for yourself. Just that need to acknowledge good things.

Ahhh of course. Babies have it all in their innocent smile. Not a stranger exactly but a random happy moment for sure

I'd probably find it a tad weird if a stranger felt the need to comment on any aspect of my appearance and pull this face

I see getting others to smile as something of a personal challenge, last time it happened was when I slowed the car to let a young lady cross the road not far from where we live.

Time before that I actually gave a lift to one of my sons work colleagues.. it was raining, she was pregnant, to see her face light up was worth every mile... I just love to do good deeds and lend a hand when possible.

I sometimes tell women I don't know that I like their outfit. Women often compliment me on my clothes too. They smile,I smile, we all smile. It's nice

Why weird?

I wasn't giving her fashion tips

Ha! I like your approach. "Personal challenge" you say? Some people do sport challenges, growing moustache, giving up hair... smile seems a simple offering but quite powerful.

Delightful Bliss

In November on the tube. A guy got on and sat next to me, and for whatever reason in that moment we were relaxed enough with each other to rest against each other, a simple smile and enjoy your evening, was all that was said on departing, no pressure, no Intimidation, just two people happy in one another's company for a brief spell

I bought a food token from Greggs earlier today and gave it to a lad outside so he can get food and a hot drink. Not sure he smiled but he said thanks.

I told a lady I was walking alongside, first thing in the morning as we travelled through a station, that she looked lovely in her coat and that the colour really worked with her skin tone, hair etc. It was absolutely true and I’m so glad I did because her reaction told me she needed something nice saying to her that day.

Oxford

Yesterday, in a beautiful chocolate shop, a person with electric blue nails and an amazing-looking leopard-style coat came in. I said I admired the coat, and that it looked very 1960s King's Road. They beamed, and said it was indeed vintage Biba. It was a gorgeous moment.

I smiled reading "it was absolutely true". I felt the same. Its like hearing a song first time you instantly want to sway to or the smell of beautiful dish arriving to your table. You just cannot stop yourself from exclaiming your joy out loud. And yes it's true, no hidden intentions, pure appreciation.

Someone making you smile ? Ah I'm sorry. World is spinning quick and not so many make time for random kindness.. How about being the first one to do so? There is a good chance it will make you feel good too.

When I was out Xmas food shopping last Saturday in M&S, I just happened to walk past a woman and her husband. I looked at her, she looked at me and I said Merry Christmas to her. It made us both smile but I wish I had seen her face when she realised I'd passed her an envelope with £60 in it x

Smiling evokes a positive emotion. When a simple “good morning” from me elicits one from a passing stranger or vice versa, it helps create a more buoyant mood in me.

Thinking about it, I think you might be correct, in that it was a scream and not in a orgasmic kinda way....more fear I'd say.

Oh! Was that a charity initiative or just personal gesture ? How wonderful at this difficult time for many people.

About 12 years ago I passed Sinead Cusack backstage at a famous theatre in London! Our eyes met as we were walking past each other and we smiled. Her smile was electric! It literally lit everything up! I have never felt I was walking on clouds but at that moment I was! It was like a bolt of love lightening! If you can fall in love with someone instantly, that was the instant! Right there! Unbloodybelievable! Probably the most beautiful smile I’ve ever been given!

Jeremy Irons might have given you an iron stern look if you would run off into sunset

Thanks, no, Jeremy wasn’t there but a heck of a lot of other stars were including Stephen Fry and Benedict Cumberbatch. And some unbelievably stunning young actress hopefulls!

But Sinead - fuck she melted my knees and my heart in a split second with that bewitching smile! That second seared onto my memory till my last breath now!
