The Chief of Police should hang his head in Shame. The clearup rate seven years ago was 15%. Today it is only 5%.

What's going on here guys. It's all over the news ..

Folkestone

Its called cutting police who are stuck in offices dealing with paperwork (no fault of their own). According to my friend he only goes to 999 calls due to the massive paperwork and computer system which isnt fit for purpose.

Carlisle usually

Police hands are tied by ridiculous protections for offenders and the overwhelming amount of paperwork and lack of support.

The entire system is an absolute shambles, not only the police.

At a guess.... The traditional crimes are down, but new age crime such as online fraud are on the up... And these are harder to solve.

But can they even find there way back to the station....

You could argue that if we got rid of all police that crime would only rise by 5%

Mostly done by cameras and not even police these days, although the organisation runs it.

How would you know? No Police to report it to, then no crime at all. You've saved us all.

Its all a mess, not just the police, every government agency is a mess, police, transport, energy, healthcare etc etc. Has been for years, not just since Tory's came to power. We are a rich country with very poor services and successions of very poor government's. I could go on.....

Ryde

Here on the Isle of Wight, the police are notoriously crap. They are few in number, are hardly ever on the beat and their stock response when at a crime-scene is:

"If there's no blood spilled, it's an insurance matter".

This year, the crime-rate has soared, and the the police response has gotten worse. Their primary function seems to be breaking up fights at pubs & nightclubs every weekend.

Someone I know was mugged, being kicked to the ground and given a boot in the ribs whilst down. With a very visible head-wound whilst sitting in the back of an ambulance, the police officer at the scene said it probably wasn't worth reporting it officially.

A popular response from the police over here has become: "At least it isn't as bad as it is on the mainland...."

Part of the issue is changing regulations over recording crimes. Many many more incidents are being 'crimed' ie, recorded as such. Regardless of whether anyone involved actually wants a formal record made or not.

Additionally, there is a rapidly declining sense of social responsibility. Many many people want to report a crime but can't be bothered to provide a formal statement or give evidence in court. No formal evidence, no conviction.

We voted in the lot who have done their best to degrade life in the UK, for the majority. Austerity and making the 99% pay, has been no hidden secret.

Remember why austerity was needed in the first place though, the Brown government borrowed, borrowed and borrowed in its 3 years. Then there was a recession. Then 10 years later covid which created at 400 billion black whole, half of which was unnecessary imo. The country is broken and the people are being made to pay rather than the endless run of useless governments.

We always vote in the government. Public sector services have been declining under all governments for the last 30 odd years. It's the first place they look to save money.

Melton Mowbray

A pal of mine was in the police until retirement. As others have said system clogged up with paperwork and by the time a shift has delt with a wall of domestic stuff the shift is over.
