Do you ever look at someone's profile or see them posting on the forums regularly and think... I would love to message them, and then you open up a PM to them and think... what the hell can I say to to them, that doesn't sound cheesy or anything like that... I know I do

The main thing OP is to read the profile first. If it is a couples profile then please do address both parties otherwise tbh you just look like an idiot! Also if the profile says they’re not meeting, like mine does, you really have to see if you have anything to say that might be interesting. Other than that. Send what you want to. Be yourself. And don’t stress about it so much xx

If it sounds cheesy then I wouldn't be messaging them.

So much! I hardly message anyone, except sometimes off the back of one of those 'tell someone you think they're lovely' type threads. And it's not because I don't like people - quite the opposite!

I do send first messages they are never easy to write though. If it something off a thread in the forums which is rare I will usually say sorry for messaging. But then I don't send anything in a pm that I wouldn't say in public anyhow.

First messages are difficult tho and all you can do is be yourself in them. The worst that can happen is they delete it or block either way you know then they are not interested.

Yes, just checked - I've been the initiator of 4 message threads in the past month, and all were sparked by one of those encouraging threads. I can't remember the last time I messaged someone based on their profile, however much I like them.

I’ve sent PM’s to people off here a few times and often find people will PM us instead of responding to our comment in the forum, which can be nice to receive but sometimes gets me thinking is it so the don’t offend others on here that they are flirtatious with

You wrote me a lovely, kind, thoughtful message on the back of a 'reaching out at Christmas' thread and it made my week!

Maybe that's part of it, OP - women probably get so many sexual messages on here they are wary, or jaded. But if the message is just appreciative, genuine, and kind, perhaps it will cut through the background noise?

If I fancy someone, I'll probably say at some point, so not in that sense. I don't mind offering a bit of tongue-in-cheek cheese!

But there are people I think are funny/interesting that I don't message, either as I don't want them to think it's a 'come on' or because we don't really interact on the forum so I assume that means they wouldn't be up for a chat.
