Speeding in Dorset

Not too long ago my brother was caught speeding by a camera while on holiday in Dorset. Anyway, he returned home and after a while recieved a letter through the post informing him of this. He was offfered to pay the fine and accrue penalty points, or take a driver awareness course. However, when choosing the course, he was informed he had to go all the way back to Dorset to do it (he lives in Wrexham). I believe that Dorset is or was the only county in England and Wales that required you to return to the same county where the speeding took place in order to take the course. Has anyone else experienced this?

Bollocks. You can chose any online course from a provider that suits YOU.

Northumberland /Borders

I've had to do this before and because the programme doesn't operate in Scotland, loads of Scots caught speeding in England or Wales signed up for the Berwick course. I assume Carlisle would be similar.

If there was an online course at the time, it wasn't offered to my brother.

Online courses are continually being ran up and down the country by multiple providers. There must be at least 75 that you can choose from.

I don't know what to say other than it wasn't mentioned to him and he was told he had to go back down to Dorset.

Well I think it's perfectly fine - the experience may help focus his mind re: speed limits

I did mine online last time.

However I was once stopped for not wearing a seat belt and I recieved a letter months later asking me to attend court in the town where I was stopped. I lived over 250 miles from there and I explained this to them, but they wouldn't allow me to go to a court anywhere else.

Sounds like they were just being dicks. They could easily have let you attend court locally.

All this self pity. Try not breaking the traffic laws. It's not hard.

So speaks someone who's never inched over the speed limit in his entire life. Or, more likely, you've just not been caught.

Lancashire

But if you are caught you just have to own it

Just get it sorted

Be more mindful going forward

It happened

No point going on about it

It's probably the latter. I don't think it's possible for someone never to have broken a speed limit, even by 1 mph.

Yes I thought that, but there was no way they were going to allow me to attend a local court.

I couldn't be bothered to drive all the way back and book a room. I thought it would of cost more than the fine, so I let them deal with it in my absence.

My brother opted to stay in a hotel. Being so far away, it was not possible to drive all the way there, do the course, then drive all the way back in a single day.

All the cars I’ve had the speedo reads slightly higher than your actual speed. This is confirmed by my Sat nav. So my Speedo reads 30 and actually doing approx 28

This would mean the officer how court you would have to come to you to give evidence as well as others.
