So many!

There’s OBVIOUSLY Dolly Parton’s song ‘I’ll always love you’ which was made an even bigger hit by Whitney Houston!

There’s Jeff Buckley’s ‘Hallelujah’ which is fascinating and clever but not necessarily an improvement on the original.

My personal fave is Bruno Mars’s cover of Adele’s ‘All I ask’. It knocks spots off her version. In Adele’s hands it’s a dull, whiney, boring number which fails to engage me musically and in any other way, admittedly not helped by her idiosyncratic approach to tuning and “singing” - more like hooting!

Mars and his team bring rhythmic and harmonic invention to it, bring it to life and transform it into a really compelling song. Compare the YouTube clips of the song performed by Adele abd the Live Lounge version by Mars! They are truly in different galaxies!

“I‘m forever blowing bubbles” covered by the Cockney Rejects is an interesting and possibly disturbing rehash of Dame Vera Lynn’s original! In fact, I find it very hard to tell it’s the same song at all in their hands! It’s a bit like Eric Morecambe’s Grieg: all the right notes, just not necessarily in the right order!

Ryan Adams - Wonderwall

Sure it has been covered by every busker on every high street and many versions recorded but I think Adams' version is by far the best.

In fact Noel Gallagher himself said "I think Ryan Adams is the only person who ever got that song right"

Fuck the fuck off!

Simply Red should be called Simply Awful.

They should be tried and hung for crimes against music- the main evidence being the murder of Harold Melvin ‘If you don’t know me’
