As an outsider I fail to see why people queue for hours to watch the royal walk to church

Its like hello peasants look at us....and let's not talk about Andrew but concentrate on the black woman and Harry.....Do people not get embarrassed looking at that

Not all that North of North London

Seems pointless to me. But a lot of what I do in life probably seems pointless to plenty of other people.

We've had a miserable few years, if queueing to see the Royal go to church makes them happy, good luck to them

I wouldn’t let it bother you that much

It’s similar to anyone else idolising celebrities, people like to follow and see a glimpse into their lives. To a lot of people the royals bring some unity and stability.

If it floats the voyeurs boat then why not? Not my gig personally but it causes me no offence?

I don't get embarrassed watching it but I shouted at the telly a lot when I watched an excerpt from the King's speech and Nicholas Witchell toadying afterwards.

Royalty has always held a god like quality for lots of people and by the looks of it that isn't going to change anytime soon. The pr machine is working overtime at the moment too

Do the RF ask the 'peasants' to queue up to watch them, or do the peasants make that choice of their own free will ?

In a way they do ask them to by providing the spectacle. If there was nothing to look at nobody would go.

You'd use that reasoning for pretty much any scenario but it doesn't alter the fact that people go of their own free will.

It’s an open forum where people put their points of view on varying subject matter. Folks then respond. As long as it’s with the overall rules and within the confines of the law the op can post whatever he/she wishes. That is the overarching merit.

I know religion isn’t super popular, but a family going to church is hardly a “spectacle”, by the virtue of their “celebrity” it seems impossible for the RF to do anything that isn’t a “spectacle” whether they want it to be or not.

I don’t worry about what the royals do - just as they aren’t bothered much about what I do.

But a lot of people do care and if that enhances their lives in any way then it’s fantastic for them.

I have to agree. One archaic outdated and corrupt institution taking a leisurely stroll to visit another archaic outdated and even more corrupt institution is hardly a spectacle?

They could arrive and leave in cars at the gate. They keep the spectacle aspect by posing en famille and chatting to people. I don't use the word spectacle in a derogatory way but I believe it is part of an efficient pr machine.

Can one polish rhetoric?

I agree that the vocabulary is somewhat challenged but nonetheless the narrative is the OPs opinion.

No one has a right to be or excluded from being offended?

Maybe so and possibly to cause a reaction but the op has the right to express himself in whichever he chooses with all the usual caveats.

The word peasants was used because I genuinely thought that The Royal Family give out money on their walk but when I looked it up it turns out that's Maundy money and takes place at Easter not Christmas

Its a tradition that was started to give the poor some alms
