Am I married?

No, I'm not lol.

Basically though a guy has read my profile and insists that I am married. He won't have it that I'm not. He claims I even say it on my profile.

I know what part of my profile he is referring to. To me though it just doesn't read that way and certainly wasn't written that way.

So what's you guys's opinion? Does it imply I am married or does this guy need to get a better grasp on the English language? Obviously if it is him who is correct I will have to change what it says.

TIA Eva x

I see the bit he can't understand.

Reading comprehension is a skill that many people don't have.

I think I know which line is confusing him.

He's miss-reading what you've written.

Nothing that we're reading implies you're married.

I can see the bit they are referring to as during a scan read I read it the same and it was only cause of this that I then actually re-read it and lightbulb moment.

However, I would say, be glad someone was actually reading your profile and not just sending blind messages!

Thanks everyone. I'm glad it reads the way I intended, he had me second guessing myself though.

I tried to explain what I meant in what I wrote but he either couldn't understand or wouldn't have it. He kept saying 'what you do in your personal life is your own business, who am I to judge'

I would have changed it though if it had of been misleading.

Around the Midlands

To make it much clearer perhaps it needs quotation marks after 'cock' to signify it's a 3rd person quote up to that point....or a couple of words beforehand to say 'the line....'

Insistence on you being married from a few words in profile text...guess he must know something you don't or work for the secret service OP

When me and L got married, her first words to me (quietly, as she leaned in for the first kiss) "... you're my wife now, Dave..."

I can see the bit that is confusing him, but you have clearly used ' and ' to open and close the line, so shows you are paraphrasing something said to you.

Suggest he goes to Specsavers and reads it again.

Well yeah that is true but... he did bring it up after messaging me for 2 days.

I don’t think glasses would make it easier for the confused bloke to understand. Maybe having an “O” level in English language would help him.

"Does mentioning the wife not give it away? Or am I just thick ? X"

The OP is quoting something that somebody else may be likely to say to him. He’s not referring to his own wife.

Ha, I realise the downfall of posting a thread like this. Lots of absolute gorgeous people look at your profile. You get all excited only to realise they are only looking because you asked them to! Grrr

Not thick. Some people have a better understanding of English language than others, and to be fair, at a glance that part of the OPs profile could be misunderstood.

The us of quotation marks clearly shows you are quoting someone else lol. Your not married lol but you don't want guys who have not told their wives they enjoy cock.... lol

You’ve written

'My wife doesn't know I like cock doesn't really do it for me'.

Which could be ambiguous.

'My wife doesn't know I like cock’ doesn't really do it for me.

This is clear.

It’s clear you aren’t married - quotes, third person… but English isn’t everyone’s first language and their level of comprehension and reasoning may not have been solidly embedded

You could always be clearer: messages from men/couples who say “my wife doesn’t know..”

It doesn't read that way to me at all. Incorrect placement of one inverted comma on the line in question, but it's still obvious to me what you're saying.

Bit odd that this guy is so adamant you're fibbing, tbh.

If there is the potential for ambiguity then why not remove it?

Are a few simple words more important to you than potential playmates?

Or is this just attention seeking?

Omg you're right, I didn't realise I'd done that. Probably happened while editing and not paying attention.

To make the offending sentence clearer, I'd suggest using "..." rather than '...' to indicate that it's a quote.

(Point of pedantry: Yes, I know most style guides will tell you that British English uses single ' not double " but it's generally pretty common and has been for a long time, and the " is often clearer for a reader than a ' )
