Will Smith 99% of the time- he basically just turns and and plays himself or some resemblance of The Fresh Prince (AKA doing a Connery)....then occasionally he drops a Pursuit of Happiness moment and you realise he can be pretty decent when the film forces him to put some effort in and play a real life character

Nice cage is great -brilliant in leaving Las Vegas.

I think people judge the genre they dislike rather than the actor and their skills. Most of the ones named above are highly skilled & accomplished actors.

I think Ricky Gervais and all that trendy UK lot are rubbish, including Motherland actors. The material is mildly funny but they are so type cast, they literally can only play one character - themselves, the whiner , the chav, the cynic etc there are better actors in my local pub

There are lots of renowned actors and actresses who are grossly over-rated; but to understand how they became so exalted, it is necessary to look at the mechanism: once chosen by a film company to get into their breakout role (from the massive acting flock) their value increases, but not their acting talent.

John Wayne was over-rated but many companies felt that they had to have in, in cowboy films, to get the box office revenue that would keep the film's investors happy with the return on their investment

Bob Hope was dreadful in the middle and later parts of his career, but he knew how to play the film and comedy business.

Talent is insufficient; an actor needs to know how to promote and manage himself as an investable product.

The right breakout role, useful business contacts and notable roles are all required to paper over waferthin talent.

Many international film actors are repetitive and wooden and reprise their own personae in each new project; Sean Connery was a perfect example in a UK context.

An actor whose name no-one will recognise is that of Ian Wilson who during an exceptionally long film career appeared in over 150 British movies. I will guarantee you know his face, but not his name.

Acting is a corrupt game, that used to be extremely exploitative, prior to the exposure of the casting couch, as notoriously used by Harvey Weinstein the abusive film entrepreneur.

Archibald Leech from UK who became Cary Grant in Hollywood was a very nasty individual, whose public persona hid some very dark undertones; his critical redeeming features were his good looks, phoney accent and manipulative, behind the scenes actions!

Sid James, whom I think came to the UK in the late 1940s, was actually a very good actor in some of his earliest roles, such as the 39 Steps with Kenneth More, and The Lavender Hill Mob with Stanley and Alec, but in the Carry Ons he became typecast, boring lazy, complacent and hid a very serious addictive gambling problem.

I like most of his early work, such as the wartime submarine film which was set in the mediterranean, with Lawrence Harvey.

Jared Leto who tries to 'out-act' everyone in roles he plays. Almost damaged Blade Runner 2049 but role was small, thank Goodness.

David Fincher (Fight Club) must have seen that he was acting and the because Fincher is notorious for wanting lots of takes, made it so he wasn't acting and the performance became more natural .
