People are definitely getting tighter

Secret hideaway in the pennines

Having worked in the pub trade for many years, I have definitely noticed that as more people move away from cash to card payment, they are definitely getting tighter with their tipping.

As most bar staff are on minimum wage, tips make up a welcome bonus, however as a larger proportion of people are now paying by card, the tips seem to be drying up, is it as a result of the economic crisis, or is it more a case of not actually thinking to tip

little house on the praire

I always tip I cash even when paying by card and ask if it goes to the server. When I worked in the pub we tended to get drinks bought for us rather than tips. But sometimes instead of taking the drink we would take 50p (,yes it was that long ago) and put it in the pot

Also there are people in many jobs on minimum wage that don't get tips

I wonder about homeless people in a cashless society, also buskers. I hardly ever have coins in my pockets now.

I've seen on the Internet some homeless people and big issue sellers now have card machines

That's why I always keep a few coins in my purse for those people

Tipping shouldn't exist. People should get paid a decent wage.

With it costing over five pounds a pint in many places now, I don't have much left for tips
