Probably more to do with the people you fancy not fancying you.

'You' as in a general 'you' - not specifically you OP.

It's unrealistic to expect everyone that catches your eye to feel the same.

Probably more that I feel should it happen it will come from more than a wink or a random message.

The forums are great for waiting and seeing a contributors behaviour and getting a feel for how that person is before messaging.

The thing about that is, you may actually have something to say that will be deemed mutually interesting when you do message.

Hmmm mixture of things:

- me (I doubt myself even in my ‘better’ days)

- distance

- often we’ve chatted and arranged to meet later that week/next week only to soon read a verification that they’ve met with in the meantime (kind of off-putting). Some of you may think this is reasonable behaviour but it just puts me off.
