Reports that Gary Glitter is to walk free after serving only half his sentence and he is 78 years old.

Should he be freed?

It's all over the news

Castrate the cunt, before he’s released that way it’ll curb his temptation.

Yeah, because you can't reoffend whilst wearing a tag or on a list.

Lock him and all the other paedo creeps away forever

I'm not sure his victims would quite see it like that.

If a person has completed their tariff, why not? Or else it's justice by the mob, no?

Or they could actually serve the term they were sentenced to, otherwise it's just marketing.

What percentage of prisoners serve their full term ?

That's what tariff means = the minimum sentence a prisoner must serve before being considered for parole.

In total 20 people. That is how many have been given whole life tariffs. Most have died in prison since. Otherwise every prisoner is entitled to parole.

But they would still have to be released. To keep any individual in prison past their release date is illegal and could bring about a compensation claim for wrongful imprisonment. That's why prisoners who are due to be released on a Saturday, Sunday or a Bank Holiday Monday are always released on the Friday. There are no weekend/bank holiday releases from prison and it would be illegal to hold them past their release date.

Still think him and his kind should rot in hell though.

Having served only half of his sentence , no I do t think he should.

Victims of child sexually abuse live with the abuse they suffered for the rest of their lives..

Only those detained at his majesty's pleasure. That's the point. Why sentence someone to 20 years if you know the system will only make them serve 10?

Exactly this.

What's the point in sentencing someone to 40 years if they're only going to do 20.

Hope he’s not going to make anymore music but by all accounts he’s still very rich and as for people like him the only justice they should get is castration or a rope around the neck

If it's standard policy, based on sentence and prison response, yes - he should

Prison should be about curtailment of liberty and rehabilitation. We should work towards 0 people in prison

46% of adult prisoners were proven to have re-offended within a year of release in the most recent statistics. The figure is 60% for people sentenced to less than a year.

No. He's a serial offender and dangerous.

He just seems to move to new locations round the globe and reinvent himself, with a fake name/ identity and repeat the same behaviour.

I see no signs of him even showing remorse.

about 5-10pc for ppl with greater than ten year sentences.

Those committing sexual offences also have the lowest reoffending rate.

Just because he is a high-profile person can not be treated differently from other prisoners in the same situation.

So if this is the way then I am ok with it.

But personally, some crimes Justified corporal punishment.
