Switching from smoking to vaping.

Who has done it?

Do you find it easy or hard and for how long? Any tips and tricks?

I know lots of people will comment saying its a disgusting habit, that vaping still counts as smoking. That we should have a vaper box on our profiles as well as smoker, and so on. But please leave those comments out of the thread if you can.

Stopping the smoking part is just one step and not an easy one for all that do it. So words of encouragement welcomed a rather than discouraging comments.

And for any that stopped smoking be it cold turkey or with assistance, firstly, well done! But how did you manage the cravings etc, can you share any tips and tricks that worked for you?

I gave up the cigs 7 months ago, I started vaping just for the cravings but now hardly use the vape, just keep myself busy…… I can’t stand the smell of cigarette smoke now it makes me heave

It’s all down to willpower

I stopped a couple of times, the first was cold turkey and fairly easy...is getting pregnant an option ?

I started again later though and the next time switched to vaping. That was about 8 years ago though and I think it's about time I try pack this in too. I can't even imagine smoking now, much prefer the vape but I hate that I'm still addicted to something.

Good luck with it!

Ps is this a before or after xmas/new year plan?

It's something I kept planning to do one day but one day didn't come. There was always a reason not to. But I've gone simca 10.30 am on Monday morning just using the vaper.

Can't say it's easy and boy do I want food.

Oh wow, well done! It's the time of year for overeating anyway, might as well take advantage and be one bad habit down by the new year. Rooting for ya

I gave up smoking 17 years ago ,had many failed attempts before that.

Google Alan Carr smoking ,not the comedian lol.I read one of his books and it changed my mindset & I've never looked back .

I did avoid going out whilst I was first giving up as this was a trigger for me and made sure I had some snacks to turn to .

Good luck

Agree with the book by Alan Carr, really changed my mindset, which helped me quite for 7 years.

I vape now and don’t want a cigarette at all, the only thing I will say is I have no idea how I’m going to give this up!

Oh my!

The habit part is hard to break. I have to stop myself washing my hands each time, because I used to after every cigarette.

It does take time the monetary benefits and the health benefits are clear to see I had covid three times this year as well so chest a lot better bit like you cleanliness person still wash my hands after vaping what I will say as well buy a decent e cig might cost a bit but it does save you lot money

Happy Xmas to both of you

Happy prosperous new year

Yep. I did it overnight 7 years ago and haven't looked back.

I Vape nicotine free liquid too now and having smoked for 30 odd years I've never felt better.

I could probably quit this now too but don't feel the need and it's more about a substitute for the 'hand to mouth' action I used to have with cigs than anything else. When I don't Vape for long periods I tend to get a craving for junk food and sweet treats, so I also don't want to pile on the pounds if I quit vaping.

And it's nothing like smoking at all in terms of lingering smells, the potential for non vapers health to be adversely affected and most importantly

..cost. I spend around £30 a month now which wouldn't even buy 3 packs of cigs today.

I switched years ago and absolutely loved vaping, unfortunately I slipped back and now do a bit of both, I've not found another vape that works for me, I would say don't give up if one vape doesn't work try another, for me they make me cough a lot until I get used to it, I have just got myself another to try again.

Good luck op.

You just go from one addiction to another. It stopped me smoking over night but I just got addicted to vaping instead.

I went smoking - vaping- bigger tanks, bigger flavour - smoking. Stopped. Quit all of it nearly 18 months ago

That was a 7 year journey and for the last two as a vaper I didn't add any nicotine as I only vapid for the flavour by then.

I used it as a quitting aid even though I didn't intend to

"You just go from one addiction to another. It stopped me smoking over night but I just got addicted to vaping instead. "

Yep. But one can be significantly better for you than the other, both in terms of health and financial burden.

I used to smoke anything up to 2 packs a day. These days that would be £25 a day. £175 a week. £9k+ a year.

Not only could I not afford it now but I'd be looking at an early grave.

After spending around £30 on hardware each year the £30 a month cost of (nicotine free) liquid meand that new 'addiction' is affordable, not impacting mine or anyone close to messages health, and I don't stink like an ashtray anymore.

I'll take that as a significant lifestyle improvement any day of the week and twice on a Sunday.

I switched 9 months ago, still got cravings for a cigarette for a while but used patches for 2 weeks yo help me through. Touch wood that's it for me now but going forward I want to quit vaping too.

I smoked from age 13 till last year and then used patches and vaping to quit and as long as you get a good vape and find flavours you like you will find you actually prefer vaping.

I'd say don't buy the disposable ones as work out expensive, I got smok kiss 2 which is really good for the price and doesn't leak like some others

Oh and I'd say use nicotine salt shots and not standard ones as you get a better and quicker nicotine hit but you can read about the difference from those and normal ones online
