"I'm gas engineer what's up"

Boiler turned on this morning and made lots of whining when running. Think it must be the fan and hoping it’s just because it’s cold outside.

And luckily no mother in law.

You can usually tell between the pump and fan with a whinning noise.

boiler starts

pump runs

fan starts

then last of all ignition

most fans are at the top of the boiler and the pump is more down at the base of the boiler.

you just need to determine where the sound is coming from

Just so you know since you have found the noise.

A buzzing or whining sound coming from inside your boiler is a genuine cause for concern that is typically caused by worn pump bearings, vibrating fan bearings or a defective burner.

If its still working at moment leave it alone.

but be prepared to have it repaired.

If the fan was faulty then the boiler wouldnt light, As it wont gain enough air movement for the pressure switch to say its safe to light the burner.

Thanks for that. It’s definitely my fan then.

Fortunately I am used to having power cuts living in a village. I can survive and stay warm even if it packs up over Christmas.

In fact some of my most fun and memorable Christmases have occurred during power cuts.

Oh I agree.

Its rather romantic having a meal by candle light, followed by snuggerling infront of a wood stove.

Followed by passionate love making upon the duvets infront of the stove.
