Adult conversation

As someone who is single I find myself missing adult conversation. I don’t mean “sex talk”

I can go 15 hours of a day without it, outside of working hours. It’s easy to say pick up your phone but most people who are “partnered” have evenings to themselves and rightly so

In some ways it’s made me become socially awkward or a bit of a hermit. It’s not loneliness but I think the cat has heard enough of my chat now!

How do others handle lack of adult chat?

I generally just have conversations with myself in my head.

I know the feeling, all my friends are annoyingly happily married.

Guy don't just do normal chat without the sex shit.

You typically need some thing in common otherwise it will fall flat.

Omfg, people who think like myself, I thought I was just weird and on my own lol.

Single have been for five years now.

For me work, home, dinner, bed.

Seven days a week (work 5)

Gets a little repetitive tbh but such is life.

All those in the same boat, keep your chin up and who knows what or who is around the corner.

I was in a long term marriage, I had zero friends and my ex and I living together didn’t communicate well. I can relate to loneliness.

After my divorce I had to make a change. Otherwise I’d live alone , be alone.

I suppose what I’m saying is we can’t always find the friends we need. But nothing changes unless we make a change in our routines.

How do others handle lack of adult chat?

I am in a similar boat on this, I have never had a social life, and certainly don't know how to "socially mingle". My late wife and I were the same age almost to the hour, and we were together from aged 16, and never parted till she died, we went everywhere together and did everything together. that said we rarely socialised as although my wife knew of my sexual preference even before we met, no one else did. It's nearly 8 years of being on my own and have only been shopping , and necessary appointments. I would be a total wallflower at a party, as I am terrible at social chatter, I don't have TV or radio don't take papers and loathe football, so I guess I am a bit of a misfit unless sex is the order of the day. Oh and as I am hearing impaired I can only hear one person talking at a time LOL. But I am a happy go lucky cheerful guy, with no real hang-ups and am as happy as one can be on their own.

I feel exactly the same, my young black Labrador only seems to understand the words ‘food’ and ‘walk’, she isn’t a great conversationalist either.

Social media has, generally, replaced this.

That said, i generally try and be social in person often. I struck up a number of new friendships at gym classes and fitness club socials, then go from there. It has really helped me not lose that side of things, after being indoors for so long due to the pandemic.

Just find a game that isn’t to stressful like sea of thieves or something along those lines

Make friends online and chat and bs with them about general Everday things while mindless playing a game

Snap! Made some mates doing that, plenty of group chats plus a friendly bod and a cuppa is only ever a phone call away.

I have particular groups of mates where we talk politics, or talk work, or talk family, and a precious handful where we'll natter about anything.

I found it tough in my 30s as I didn't know many single, childless people, but it's picked up again in the last few years as kids have left home and my contemporaries have more free time again.

yes just rabble on regardless they chatted away in German as though they knew what I was saying and laughed so I had achieved something I guess
