Last Saturday my son bought a secondhand Yamaha motorcycle. It was delivered late Saturday afternoon and come Sunday morning it had gone...been nicked.

I reported it to the police, they were lovely but we wasn't holding our breath at getting it back.

I asked the officer if we could pick it up when/if found...no problem he says. Thanks I say, glad of their help.

Low and behold Thursday I get a phone call whilst at work...they have found the bike, a 4 min walk from my house ( back of a garage).

I was really pleased and expressed my gratitude. Until, they said a recovery truck was coming to take the bike away and he proceeded to give me the number to call to get it back. It was to cost hundreds of pounds to recover the bike and then we'd have to arrange to get it back home. I really wasn't happy! You could see my house from where they found it!

Lucky my son was at home and went and took it back off the officers who were sat waiting for the recovery vehicle.

After realizing they weren't going to be able to stop him taking his property, Their parting words were... You can still expect a bill for the cancelling the recovery!

I'm ranting because I'm gob smacked that they would recover the bike right by where we live.. to take god knows where!

At least he got the bike back but

As the bike wasnt actually recovered I'd say they have no chance of enforcing any charges.

Ruby, it would have just been too much. The bike wasn't insured. We had just got it and parked it in the back garden.

We did get it back...there is some damage... ignition and indicator and don't know what else yet

Hugs hopefully it gets sorted out

I had something similar happen to me

But the insurance covered it as there was damage to the bike

Literally walked it 20 feet and left it laying in the middle off a public road

At first I was getting charged with abbanding it in a dangerous place

Basically they broke in to the garage it was stored it

But had a disk lock on the front and a lock on the back wheel

And also a chain clock that prevents the back sprocket from turning

Yes I stay In a “ rough town” not just a bad area off the place

But anyway realseing they weren’t able to just roll it away

They tryed to pick it up and lift it

Must have made it about 20 feet on the the main road and thought stuff this

And dropped it caseing damage to the bike

Also damaged it trying to bust the locks off it

They called a tow truck to pick it up then came and tryed to charge me

When I explained it should be in the garage wtf are they talking about

I went to show them to find the garage door open

They were going to make me pay for them tow it away

But luckily the insurance rote the bike off anyway

And I never see it again just a check form the insurance company

Your welcome anytime and yes it was a shock when they chap the door and sed they were charging me with abbading a motervech on a public road

So you didn’t arrange the recovery?

You didn’t ask the police to recover ?

All the police will do is attempt to forward an invoice to you

You didn’t use the service!

You didn’t request the service

It’s not you invoice!

I wouldn’t pay it and let it get taken further

Make sure you keep all emails paper work call logs connected as you may need it all in the future
