So what would you personally do (and I can generise what most do) when you have many, possibly hundreds of messages and each and everyone has put some sort of effort into a message? Several paragraphs maybe.

And each one includes a photo and your not interested. You understand where I’m leading here.

I think the wink button has a hard time, i think it was supposed to be an icebreaker but it’s got a reputation along the way as lazininess. Users will use a website as they think fits I suppose.

I absolutely get where you are coming from Woody. I know what the wink is intended for and I feel crap about the genuine guys who have taken the time to ready my (long) profile and send an articulate and original message but are buried in the 1200 unread messages. Even if I'm not interested, they are worthy of a polite 'thanks for taking the time to message but it's a no thanks' reply. Trying to sort the wheat from the chaff in my messages AND checking out who has winked at me just isn't an option. Maybe it's time I turn my usual approach on its head and block messages from single guys but encourage winks and go Bumble style.

There’s no point in winking us because don’t respond to them and never have. We want to see people’s personalities coming through in a message because also helps filter in or out the people may or may not like. The people who we’re interested in are the ones who send us a good message and we like the look of them.

For me a wink is to show that you are interested in that person, if you get a wink back then great, I then initiate a conversation.

Winks are a great ice breaker and an indication they are interested. If I get a wink back I’ll be more inclined to send a message and take it from there.

Meet lots of amazing people and it started with a wink I find it's a nice way to say hey we are interested if you wink back we know it's mutual and a message will be sent

"What’s the point of composing a message using the context of their profile if it only gets deleted. Id sooner use the wink process and of I get one back start chatting.

This. I like them personally. The initial message just comes down to ‘I’m interested, want to chat’, and a wink does that more quickly. I like receiving them too. "

It’s a good point. Though I try (normally fail) to add something clever, the first message is generally just an amalgam of my profile and what, from their profile, I think they want. I really ought to use my time more efficiently.
