How Xmas has changed over the years !

When younger Xmas always bit let down for me always left on my own at Xmas due to abusive father and Mum severely disabled

Let me explain was in Bernardo’s home at three due to father being an alcoholic and used to lock us in wardrobes and box room me and two sisters.

This is not a woa is me thread always do the best for my kids and grandchildren over the years but Christmas has changed a lot over the years now it’s seems more to do with money than anything else from November 5 all the way till 24 December many people do there best at Xmas we all have to make do and mend so overall how has Xmas changed for you !

Personally love Xmas all that goes with it but think years ago not about the money but spending time with family and friends !

Thoughts your thoughts on Xmas good or bad do hope everyone has wonderful Xmas and New year x

It gss always been sbout money. Money for the church, money for businesses, money for charities.

Christmas is what you make it.

Its only becomes more commercialist for people if they let it.

Our family give small gifts ans make a big effort to spend time together and make a big deal about it.

I get that people who are already struggling financially are under more pressure at Christmas time but that's not new.

Everyday can be Christmas now. With things like the internet and amazon you can go and buy anything you want and it'll be there within a few days.

Christmas for me has now become a time focused on spending time with loved ones, the rampant gift giving and groaning tables of food mean very little when the availability of these things are so commonplace.

Love Xmas! We didn't have much when young but remember the real tree in a bucket with exams paper wrapped round the bucket! Extra food my mum got a turkey as she did turkey plucking for extra money! We allways had a whole ox tounge that she boiled remember it on the side cooling with the skin still on! Looked horrid! Tinned cream and tinned salmon! Only time wd had that! My dad died 5 days before Xmas 27 years ago! But still love Xmas x

I love Christmas, yet to get into the spirit this year though, my Christmas's as a kid weren't great, but it's made me make them better now, I do agree with the financial aspect, it's hard though, especially with kids you don't want them not getting what they want when they've been "good for Santa" although my little ones asked for socks and comfies bless.

The Christmas lunch is the one thing I always remember as being nice and board games Christmas Eve, the rest was a nightmare. I think I stress too much to try make things better for my kids than how I had it.

I find all the commercialism off-putting, starting from maybe even August. Buy our shit, buy it now, do bigger and better and more and more or else you'll ruin Christmas!

I have great memories of being a small child on Christmas day and all the presents I got. I was saying this to my mum one day and she said you didn't actually get a lot a book, colouring book and pencils, a dress Mrs santa made in our stocking and one bigger present. Kids don't need a fortune spent on them if you keep the magic alive

Dad used to break up from work the day before Xmas eve and go back on the 2nd Jan.

It was about family. We would have plenty of time to visit or have extended family over.

Now the world isn't about family, it's about money, with many parents feeling like they're failing their kids by having to work all through Xmas, not eve to afford presents but to afford a roof. All while having adverts rammed down their throats of lavish Xmas dinners surrounded by family, extended family, friends. All while having social media ramming all things Xmas down their throats, adding even more pressure and stress coz "all their friends" seem to be managing it.

Or are they?

The weather, highly unlikely these days that snow will fall. The Xmas build up starts earlier and earlier and some folk put there trees up really early as well which never used to happen as much. I think it takes away the feeling of Xmas as it far to drawn out. Having said all that i love Xmas and seeing the kids super exited for it all.

St Margaret's at Cliffe

I was lucky growing up, with loving parents and wider family.

My brother and I got great presents on the big day but the thing that sticks with me is everyone gathered together for Christmas dinner, laughing and joking, telling stories and generally having a great time.

Things changed when l got married, it was all about my now ex and her family, they were pretty dull to be honest, then my family were passing away, my mum died one Boxing Day.

If l had a single wish, it would be to go back to the good times, mid sixties to mid eighties, back around the dinner table, tears of laughter running down our faces, great times.

When I was growing up no one in my whole extended family was divorced, which is odd. Now everyone is, there are lots of new partners and not everyone gets on so there's always the awkwardness and negotiations for who goes where on what day. I do miss big group xmasses but we mostly just keep to our own households now for Xmas dinner.

I forgot about them, the gas fire used to make them dance about on the ceiling!
