What's everyone's favourite, since it's got colder and the tabloids are running the annual coldest winter, beast from the East shite.

What soup warms the cockles of your heart?

I like a proper homemade oxtail soup.

What's yours

I like mine with a very thin pasta, think vermicelli like.

Did you mean barley? Not correcting, just checking.

Same here. I did buy a Braun Multi 8000 or something to whizz it up.

Also a really really big thermos flask to put the soup in but that broke and I can't see them now, just the smaller versions.

But yeah whatever I have and some home made chicken stock

Vegetable with barley or a good potato and leek. Something that’s going to stick to the ribs and heat me from the inside out. With nice warm buttered rolls and maybe just maybe some cheddar cheese (yes I’m weird I know and own this knowledge)

Right now I'm making vats of cheesy potato soup. It's lovely and warming, proper comfort food and of late it's all I seem to want to eat.

Otherwise I make chicken broth, broccoli and stilton, sweetcorn chowder, carrot and coriander, pea and ham or celery.

I also make bendy veg soup and second-day-leftovers soup. There's not much I won't chuck in a bit of stock rather than see it wasted.

‘It is called pea wack/whack soup because wack refers to friendly soup. Back in the 1970's it was called pea wack soup as a whole street would sometimes contribute to the meal and share it around family and neighbours‘

Jamaican chicken or pea soup. Though to be fair my gran made these weekly regardless of the weather.

Broccoli and cashew nut soup...

Leak and potato

Roasted butternut squash

Sweetcorn chowder

Chicken noodle soup.

Red lentil, chilli and coconut soup

Literally the only thing I like abut this season.

Brown lentil and veg soup with soy sauce.

Fry onions, carrots, garlic in a large pot. Add chopped potato. Season.

Add brown lentils. Add spinach and any other veg you fancy. Add vegetable stock. Add water and adjust consistency as required. Simmer on low for 45 mins. Season and add soy sauce to taste.

Serve with fresh crusty bread and Irish butter.

Make a lot. Freeze whatever you don’t eat. Perfect for a cold winters night.
