A lovely gesture

The train station was heaving as was the German market. It was the end of the night and I popped into Pret for a couple of coffees whilst waiting for my train.

The server looked frazzled. It had obviously been a busy night and I asked her how her day had been.

We briefly chatted whilst waiting for the drinks and then I went to pay. To my absolute surprise, she said have them on her!

I was quite touched by her gesture. She said I was the first person all day to ask how she has was doing.

It turns out that staff at Pret are allowed to give out a free drink each day if they want to.

I was quite taken a back by a great gesture by staff and Pret. It was lovely.

Has anyone else been given a free drink by Pret?

What kindness or nice gesture have you unexpectedly received lately?

Or have you been the thoughtful one?

I think it's nice to be nice and goes a long way to make someones day!

I’m glad you could make someone else’s day too! It’s amazing how the little things make a difference. Tray someone as you would wish to be treated yourself and it’s makes life far more pleasant.

As for free coffee at pret, I can be in most days when working as I walk straight past, early in the morning I always need one to get me going. It really made my day when they do! I really should sign up for the pret subscription which will stop that though. But it means they’ll be able to treat someone else instead.

That is so true.

In the train station a guy was sleeping rough so I quietly passed him a fiver, the money for the coffee.

That's absolutely true and always treat people with respect and have witnessed people who dont. Unfortunately there is also some shockingly bad service in this country too that may not always be about personal characteristics but lack of training. Whatever it is, we all experience it daily.

One of the lads at work, he's 19 on Xmas day.

Came in today and said he's not taking no for an answer, and that I'm going to his house for Xmas Dinner after work, his mum is really thankful that I treat him as my work son and there's no way either of them are letting me go without a dinner, especially after feeding other families all day.

I'll have to get him a merry birthday card and a thank you card for her.

Humbled.

Oh how lovely, it really is the little things isn't it

I paid for a frazzled Mums shopping today, her baby was crying and her card got declined, she started to panic, I thought she was going to cry but I just reached over and put my card in the machine.

She was trying to take my details to pay me back but I told her to pay it forward when she could.

Bloody expensive shopping trip but fuck it, I'm in a position where I can do that

Made a promise to myself to an act of kindness regularly from this point on. Life is shit for many people, we just need to look out for each other a little more

It's lovely when that happens and I've had a few free coffees from Pret. They actually have a certain number they can give out each day. I have also had a free coffee in Greggs. It was the day before our wedding and I went to collect the doughnuts for our wall and sandwich platter and I must have looked very frazled As the lady said I'll go and get them, here's a coffee go and have a cigarette and I'll bring them out to you.

It was actually as I was feeling really frazled because my maid of honour was driving up from Southampton to London with her family to help me set up the venue as we are on a tight schedule. They got massively delayed in traffic so had to go and start collecting things myself but I don't drive. That 5 minutes out just gave me time to breathe and that's sometimes all you need.

"I almost always get chocolates on all my flights. I hate milk chocolate so give it away, but appreciate the gesture. "

Do you fly a lot?

I love milk chocolate

I can't remember the last time I flew!

Well, actually I can, it was a trip to Rome that my kid's surprised me with on my 50th....so a very long time ago

"The train station was heaving as was the German market.

"

Fair play

"When lorna and I went to Bruges recently on the eurostar we were upgraded to business class and were able to enjoy the free food and drinks in their lounge and relax until we got on the train then on our way back to London they upgraded us again!

Sweet...how good was that! "

We seem to get upgraded a lot but I think that's because my husband is one of those people others just seem to want to do things for. I never used to get upground it before I met him.

I was standing at a craft fair yesterday and gave my mum a cwtch - just because. She did her usual and visibly flinched away. A lady sitting opposite told mum to enjoy it - she didn't have anyone to give her a cuddle anymore. So I went straight over to her and gave her a big cwtch. She was beaming and it felt lovely.
