No they're pretty good to be fair! Just channel the people who give you good ones and fuck those that give you bad ones

If you don’t feel you can’t care. If you don’t care, you’re a shit.

You called!

OP - no, feelings aren't shit in general. Sometimes an event happens that causes a negative emotional response - bereavements, relationship breakdowns, unrequited love, dropping your toast butter side down on an unhoovered carpet covered in dog hair, realising you're now eligible for a saga holiday - that kind of thing.

But without feelings there'd be no joy, no love, no sense of being wanted and desired, no pleasure in giving a first puppy to a young child depsite the fact they will no doubt outlive it and have the heartbreak of losing it in the future.

So in short feelings are great. Just not all the time.

You have to go through them to reach emotional maturity

Thanks all for the kind words and support.

Whilst I understand that feelings do allow the joyful emotions to surface, quite often they cause the negative ones.

Perhaps having lower or no expectations may be the answer

Tonypandy.

Feelings can raise you up or tear you apart. It's just about remembering that feeling come and go. Only you can dwell on them.

It's never easy when the shitty ones stick in your head and push the good ones out.

I think it's the size of the gap between the lows and the highs that can be the issue. If you're riding a roller coaster of emotions, then it can be difficult to handle the big swings in how you feel. Whereas if you're always in the middle grey area, it's easier to manage, but can potentially just be a bit dull.

I’m an emotional mess at the moment. I can be myself one day and then lock my doors and not speak to anyone the next. Feelings are aweful when they are the wrong bad types Sadness/loneliness/angry/regret

But then are the most amazing ‘lift you up’ type when they are the best ones. Love/happiness/joy etc.

If only we could choose which ones we want to feel.
