There’s the FAQs that are there to say what rules are in place by the Site owners. .. but does the forum try influence how people should use the site?

No dic pics as profile.

Don’t ever say who you fancy.

Don’t put rules on your profile

That type of thing ^.

I'm not a rule breaker generally and abide by the site rules.

Airy fairy forum rules to suit a particular narrative and those with a full deck of cards to be played when it suits them on the other hand aren't worth the screen they're typed on.

Given that the vast majority of site users don’t use the forum I would say that any “rule” created by forumites is basically irrelevant.

Just because a few “popular” (read: post a lot) people say something doesn’t make it law.

I don't think they are rules as such. The fora is just a bunch of opinionated/bored/poo-ing people who type some crap out and sometimes other people agree. Or disagree.

If someone comes and asks for advice, well the fora in general (bar the wanking antics of swingers chat) is a bit more erm... reserved so they'll say do away with cock pics, don't show action things. That fucking grim comment about being like a present to be unwrapped (hate it).

It's almost impossible to imagine the fun people are having down in hell! Luckily there are plenty of picture updates so I dont have to just imagine. The flirting sounds too much though, surely not.

Any influence anyone on the forum has is potentially going to affect a tiny minority of site users.

In a lot of ways the forums are just an echo chamber.

People come and go, some talk more than others and some are more opinionated.

Every single site member is an adult though. And if your use of the site changes because someone in a forum told you that you have to do anything in a certain way then you probably shouldn't be on here. Take advice, yes. Listen to others opinions of course.

But make your own mind up, do your own thing and be in control of your own actions. That way if it all goes tits up then you have nobody to blame but yourself. Saying 'the forums told me to do it' is as shit an excuse as 'the dog ate my homework'.
